FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FROM: Les Moonves, CBS Chairman TO: Our Loyal Viewers RE: Upcoming Programming Changes ... Re: last Wednesday's broadcast of the Country Music Association Awards -- We dearly hope that during the star-studded tribute to country music legend Johnny Cash, any references to his hit song "A Boy Named Sue" did not offend either our fine religious right groups or our fine transgender groups. For purely creative reasons, all future CBS references to this song shall henceforth appear as "A Boy Named Whatever." ... To further demonstrate our commitment to artistic integrity, we will employ that once-every-12-minute-crawl for all our programming, including the uproarious "Everybody Loves Raymond," to assure you, our loyal viewers, that anything and everything you see is merely empty-tainment and that no inferences are to be drawn from anything, at any time. The Washington Post pokes fun at CBS for waffling on 'The Reagans'. The Network's Finest Hour |

It was a great story: U.S. Congress wants new building, threatens to leave Washington. So one of Beijing's biggest tabloids published as news the fictional account from the Web site of the American satire newspaper The Onion -- and got an embarrassing lesson in journalism. A Chinese newspaper mistook The Onion as a serious news source and republished one of its articles. As yet, they have been too embarrassed to acknowledge their mistake to readers. Ha! It won't be taught by the Simpsons' evangelical neighbor, Ned Flanders, but a philosophy class being added to Siena Heights University's curriculum will be based on the popular animated TV series. This winter, the university is offering a two-credit class on how religion and philosophy are part of popular culture, including "The Simpsons." Readings will include "The Simpsons and Philosophy: The D'oh! of Homer" by William Irwin, and "The Gospel According to The Simpsons: The Spiritual Life of the Most Animated Family." "Animated Philosophy and Religion," taught by Kimberly Blessing and Anthony Sciglitano, is already proving popular with students. (Never heard of Siena Heights (sienahts.edu)? It is "a Catholic university founded by the Adrian Dominican Sisters" located in Adrian, Michigan.) Read about _The Simpsons and Philosophy: The D'oh! of Homer_ at http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0812694333 What's even funnier than this story is that Amazon paid someone to scan in 16 pages of this book!
