New London — Three fights that broke out downtown as crowds were clearing the city after the Sailfest fireworks show Saturday night resulted in the stabbing of two men and various injuries to seven others.
This is why I stay on the GROTON side for the fireworks. GROTON. And actually this year I kayaked into the river. No unruly crowds there. More craziness at Sailfest |

Groton –– Facing a dearth of submarine contracts and a decline in maintenance and repair work, the Electric Boat shipyard said Tuesday that it would eliminate up to 20 percent of its work force by the end of next year, affecting as many as 2,400 employees across the board –– from its salaried employees to its designers and shipyard workers.
2,400 = THOUSANDS, not "Hundreds". As usual, Electric Boat would like to wish each and every employee a very merry Christmas, a happy New Year, and a big, giant FUCK YOU to the Southeastern Connecticut economy, and a very special thank you to all the people that rallied to save the subase... through your efforts we were able to effectively remove subase NLON from the BRAC list, and now we're going to celebrate by effectively removing EB from operations. Two more articles in case you're interested: http://www.theday.com/eng/web/news/re.aspx?re=91400387-1BAB-4EB3-981E-125DD3EFFF27 and http://www.theday.com/eng/web/news/re.aspx?re=B0DEBFBA-B9F4-4065-BE5F-7BEA53AD87B1 This started about a month ago, with the president telling us that the layoffs would affect mostly design, about 150-200 people in the MDA (which I am a part of). Now it's moved on to 2,400 in all areas of the company. There's always Foxwoods, as the first article is happy to point out. Anyone up for teaching me to deal Blackjack? The german shepherd was barking ferociously at the man with a gun on his hip. The man, with his hands held high in the air, did not flinch as the dog gnashed its teeth and was held back only by a handler with a short leather leash. Then the man suddenly dropped a ball hidden in his hands. The dog scooped it up and was congratulated with high-pitched squeals — baby talk almost. “Good boy,” the man exclaimed as he bent down to run his hand through the brown and black fur. “You're a good boy.”

] LAKEWOOD -- A 25-year-old father has been charged with ] child endangerment after his 7-month-old son was found ] dead in the back seat of his car yesterday. The man ] apparently forgot the infant was secured in a car seat, ] and the boy was been left in the car for at least four ] hours, police said. "It's the rarest thing you'll ever find," said Yakov Williams, 29, of Lakewood. "People care about their children in this community more than in any community you'll ever find." -------------------------------------------------------------- That statement is such bullshit. This happens at least once a summer in "this community". I'm sorry, but they have so many kids, they don't even know which ones are where, what their names are, etc... Yes, I feel sorry for the family. I'm sorry that they are so STUPID and THOUGHTLESS and KILLED THEIR CHILD. I'm pretty damned mad. It happens -every summer- in that town. And it's always the same people. Baby left in a car in Lakewood dies; father charged |
