] "Ward was five miles from the coal mine where he works as ] a security guard and two miles from the nearest home when ] his car went off the road December 2. It plunged 150 feet ] and hit a tree, destroying the headlights and horn. ] ] The area's first major snowfall hit a few days later and ] temperatures remained below freezing for several days. To ] stay warm, Ward ripped the lining from the car's roof and ] used it as a blanket, Likens said. ] ] He also burned paper, including pages from his EMT ] manual, and melted snow to drink. His only food was what ] he could get out of an old peanut butter jar and sauce ] packets from Taco Bell." Only in West Virginia. Man saved by condiments |

] "The Mohegan Sun replicates the outrageous sensibility of ] Sun City. Its profitability is equally immoderate. This ] year it became Connecticut's and Indian country's second ] billion-dollar casino (after Foxwoods) when annual ] revenue hit 10 figures. The 32% increase over last year ] follows the opening of a second complex, which makes the ] Mohegan Sun's total gaming area larger than the combined ] area of the Mirage, Stardust and Tropicana casinos on the ] Las Vegas Strip." I love Mohegan Sun. It's beautiful and fun. I never win there. Foxwoods is nice, too (and bigger) and I always win hundreds there. I like the Indian casinos. I like living 15 minutes from both of them. I wish I were part Indian so I could win even more money. Look Who's Cashing in at Indian Casinos |

] "Whatever your holiday travel travails were Thanksgiving ] weekend, it could have been worse: You could have been on ] Sally Weisbrot's bus the night of Nov. 30. ] ] Eager to get home after spending the holiday with her ] sister in Mount Laurel, Weisbrot, a 30-year-old New ] Yorker, watched from her second-row seat with mounting ] dismay as the Greyhound driver, trying to find a ] less-congested route north, made one bad move after ] another. ] ] His biggest mistake came while the bus was mired in ] traffic on Route 9. After exasperated passengers asked if ] he knew where he was going, the driver got on the public ] address system and made a remark he would soon regret. ] ] "I'm taking you to the Taliban," Weisbrot heard him say. ] "Don't worry about it." ] ] It was a bad, nonsensical joke, everyone agrees now. But ] with the specter of war with Iraq looming and Osama bin ] Laden still at large, America is hardly in a lighthearted ] mood." I don't know, I'm an American and I'm in a lighthearted mood because I thought this whole thing was pretty funny... Highway to Hell |
