] Wild Oats Markets Inc. became the first grocery store in ] the United States to roll out a new type of "green" ] packaging which looks like plastic but turns into compost ] after disposal. ] ] Unofficially called the "Corntainer" in the natural food ] chain's 11 Pacific Northwest stores where it is being ] tested, the clear packaging is made from corn rather than ] petroleum. This reminds me of those biodegradable packing peanuts. I worked for a company that made those things (along with bubble wrap and the regular styrofoam peanuts) and did you know how they make them? They put the "un-puffed" corn pellets (i'm not sure how those were made) into a machine that actually made cheese puffs! Isn't that cool?! Anyway that whole area smelled like cereal and we had a SERIOUS bird problem back there. I like the idea of biodegradable packaging, and I'm glad they are putting the idea to other uses.
