] HOUSTON, Texas (Reuters) -- The final meals of executed ] prisoners are off the menu on the Texas prison system's ] Internet site. ] ] Texas, which far and away leads all U.S. states in ] executions since a national death penalty ban was lifted ] in 1976, has long listed details of the meals on the ] prison system's Web site, www.tdcj.state.tx.us. ] ] But Michelle Lyons, a spokeswoman for the Texas ] Department of Criminal Justice, said they were removed ] last week during a redesign of the site. ] ] "We had some complaints from people in both the U.S. and ] abroad that it might be in poor taste to distribute that ] information on the Web site," she said. Why is it in poor taste to have the last meal requests on the web site, when last statements are still there? Death row menus left bad taste |

Why haven't I heard anything about the "anthrax scare" in a very long time? It's been irritating me that it seems like nobody's been investigating it. They never found out who it was, correct? Anyone know anything? |

I hate to use this space as a classified ad of sorts, but it's the only forum I currently have to reach a wider audience than my office. If anyone knows of a Hungarian-speaking woman (or male.... preferably female but I'm not about to get picky) in the North Jersey area who might possibly be interested in helping take care of an elderly woman for a few hours on weekends, please e-mail me at . I would really appreciate any leads anyone has. Thank you. -Jessica |

] UMATILLA, Oregon (Reuters) -- Horacio Alberto ] Reyes-Camarena, a convicted murderer with failing ] kidneys, is presenting Oregon officials with a tough ] choice -- how best to keep him alive until they can ] execute him. ] ] The cash-strapped state, struggling to provide basic ] education and health care to its citizens, pays $120,000 ] a year to clean Reyes-Camarena's blood with a dialysis ] machine at Umatilla State Prison. That treatment could ] continue for a decade as he appeals his death sentence in ] the 1996 murder of an 18-year-old woman. ] ] After Reyes-Camarena's prison doctor last month concluded ] he was a good candidate for a transplant, state officials ] may consider giving him a priceless donated kidney. The ] $100,000 operation could save the state money but would ] deprive someone outside prison of a life-giving organ. This is absolutely absurd!!!! More later, too angry to make coherent arguments. ] The newest option is Singulair, an anti-asthma ] tablet now found to also ease allergies' itching, ] sneezing and congestion. It targets a different ] symptom-causing substance, leukotrienes, and thus can be ] used together with steroid sprays or antihistamines. Like ] the previous two categories, it has few side effects. I must say, I'm REALLY impressed with Singulair's ability not only to keep me from having trouble with my asthma, but also it's amazing how well it works on allergies. I was wondering why I'm the only one around who's not been bothered by pollen during the past few days (the pollen levels here right now have warranted a "special weather statement"). Then it dawned on me: it's the Singulair. Yay! BRING ON THE SPRING AND THE TREES, BABY! The Claritin over-the-counter dilemma |
