This article is about Trump wanting a piece of the Connecticut casino action. But what I wanted to address is the Eastern Pequots using the Norwich State Hospital land for their new casino.
1. I -love- abandoned mental hospitals. Marlboro Psychiatric is probably the most beautiful area I've ever seen... unbelievable architecture and gorgeous lands... that's how I feel about Norwich too.. it's just incredible. I will be SO PISSED if they put a casino there.
2. The grounds of Norwich State Hospital are within spitting distance of Mohegan Sun. They are DIRECTLY across the river from one another. Will they run a ferry from one casino to the other? This will make THREE casinos within 10 minutes of each other!! And within 20 minutes of me!! I haven't lived here that long, but I know enough to see that crime and "bad element" have been going up and up and up because of the casinos. Not that I have a problem with them, mind you. There really isn't anything else to do around here, I just have a love-hate relationship with them. Pretty soon, though, if they put in this third casino, New London county is going to become Connecticut's Atlantic City, and I'll be pissed.
3. The Golden Hill Paugussetts should, by all means, build a casino in Bridgeport. Bridgeport is already a slum, a casino could possibly help, and I liked their billboards in Bridgeport when they were fighting for recognition: "Vote for the Golden Hill Paugussetts, The Tribe With a PLAN!".
