40th moon of Jupiter spotted
Topic: Science 1:54 pm EST, Jan  3, 2003

] "The moon has an estimated diameter of 2.2 miles (3.5 km)
] and a 748-day orbit around Jupiter, according to a recent
] announcement from the International Astronomical Union,
] the world authority on celestial object discoveries in
] the solar system."

A recent issue of "Sky and Telescope" magazine brought up the question of "what really counts as a moon?". I think we'll never find out exactly how many moons Jupiter or Saturn or Uranus have because these giant planets probably just pull in anything that floats by close enough. I think there needs to be some sort of guideline for what's actually a moon and what's just a rock that got pulled in. But I'm no astronomer. Or philosopher, for that matter.
