Samba HOWTO Chapter 4. Domain Control
Topic: Technology 11:59 pm EDT, Sep 27, 2005

What is the key benefit of Microsoft Domain Security?

In a word, single sign-on, or SSO for short. To many, this is the Holy Grail of MS Windows NT and beyond networking. SSO allows users in a well-designed network to log onto any workstation that is a member of the domain that contains their user account (or in a domain that has an appropriate trust relationship with the domain they are visiting) and they will be able to log onto the network and access resources (shares, files, and printers) as if they are sitting at their home (personal) workstation. This is a feature of the domain security protocols.

Using Samba as a primary domain controller
Topic: Technology 10:52 pm EDT, Sep 27, 2005

Open-source Samba turns a Unix or Linux system into a file and print server for Microsoft Windows network clients. Tom Syroid dishes up a juicy tutorial that shows you how to configure Samba as the primary domain controller on an xSeries server.

Beautiful Agony is dedicated to the beauty of human orgasm. This may be the most erotic thing you have ever seen, yet the only nudity it contains is the baring of beautiful souls.

The Observer | International | Armed and dangerous - Flipper the firing dolphin let loose by Katrina
Topic: Miscellaneous 1:30 am EDT, Sep 26, 2005

'My concern is that they have learnt to shoot at divers in wetsuits who have simulated terrorists in exercises. If divers or windsurfers are mistaken for a spy or suicide bomber and if equipped with special harnesses carrying toxic darts, they could fire,' he said. 'The darts are designed to put the target to sleep so they can be interrogated later, but what happens if the victim is not found for hours?'

What happens?

BEST DEATH EVAR.

Zebedee: Secure IP Tunnel
Topic: Technology 10:07 pm EDT, Sep 25, 2005

Zebedee is a simple program to establish an encrypted, compressed “tunnel” for TCP/IP or UDP data transfer between two systems. This allows traffic such as telnet, ftp and X to be protected from snooping as well as potentially gaining performance over low-bandwidth networks from compression.

The main goals for Zebedee are to:

Provide full client and server functionality under both UNIX/Linux and Windows.

Be easy to install, use and maintain with little or no configuration required.

Have a small footprint, low wire protocol overhead and give significant traffic reduction by the use of compression.

Use only algorithms that are either unpatented or for which the patent has expired.

Be entirely free for commercial or non-commercial use and distributed under the term of the GNU General Public Licence.

Of course, Zebedee is by no means the first, or only secure tunnel program available. It does not pretend to compete with the likes of ssh, SSL or FreeS/WAN in terms of breadth of function but if you want something quick, simple and completely free then it may be the tool for you.

Possibly swell for getting lawyers filesharing and IM through firewalled courtrooms.

GNU httptunnel
Topic: Technology 5:33 pm EDT, Sep 25, 2005

httptunnel creates a bidirectional virtual data connection tunnelled in HTTP requests. The HTTP requests can be sent via an HTTP proxy if so desired.

This can be useful for users behind restrictive firewalls. If WWW access is allowed through a HTTP proxy, it's possible to use httptunnel and, say, telnet or PPP to connect to a computer outside the firewall.
