THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JUNE 22: PC sellers, smarting at Microsoft for juggling them in a legal trapez, are now looking upon an 83-year old crusader to settle their old scores with the IT behemoth. Kerala chief minister VS Achuthanandan is on a trip to develop the state as India’s FOSS (Free and Open Software Systems) destination, with backing from National Informatics Centre (NIC).
FOSS is a niche market but today’s niche is tomorrow’s mass market, and was a hardware seller’s delighted quip to the Kerala government’s move, hardly months after a Microsoft crackdown on free supply of pirated software by dealers. "Offers of pre-loaded Linux operating system could yield good hardware sales margins," says PK Harikrishnan, president, Kochi-based All Kerala Computer Manufacturer and Dealers Association.
Kerala used to be known as the only 'Communist' holdout state in India, but apparently their current government is more social democrat, of the European tradition. Anyway, given that Kerala has the highest standard of living and literacy rate in India, it is the perfect place for something like this to take off: State Sponsorship of FOSS.
Imagine a large campus where FOSS development is carried out, grants are given to FOSS contributors around the world, and FOSS 'scholars' are invited to come and work.
Charlton explained to Discovery News that humans have an inherent attraction to physical youth, since it can be a sign of fertility, health and vitality. In the mid-20th century, however, another force kicked in, due to increasing need for individuals to change jobs, learn new skills, move to new places and make new friends.
A “child-like flexibility of attitudes, behaviors and knowledge” is probably adaptive to the increased instability of the modern world, Charlton believes. Formal education now extends well past physical maturity, leaving students with minds that are, he said, “unfinished.”
“The psychological neoteny effect of formal education is an accidental by-product — the main role of education is to increase general, abstract intelligence and prepare for economic activity,” he explained.
“But formal education requires a child-like stance of receptivity to new learning, and cognitive flexibility."
"When formal education continues into the early twenties," he continued, "it probably, to an extent, counteracts the attainment of psychological maturity, which would otherwise occur at about this age.”
A little slow at first, but these kids made a live action walkthrough (with some liberties...) of Goldeneye 64, complete with sound effects, disappearing corpses, talking to Q, going to the sub screens, dying, and more.
The world's second richest man - who's now worth $44 billion - tells editor-at-large Carol Loomis he will start giving away 85% of his wealth in July - most of it to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
I awakened to dryness and the ferns were dead, the potted plants yellow as corn; my woman was gone and the empty bottles like bled corpses surrounded me with their uselessness; the sun was still good, though, and my landlady's note cracked in fine and undemanding yellowness; what was needed now was a good comedian, andcient style, a jester with jokes upon absurd pain; pain is absurd because it exists, nothing more; I shaved carefully with an old razor the man who had once been young and said to have genius; but that's the tragedy of the leaves, the dead ferns, the dead plants; and I walked into a dark hall where the landlady stood execrating and final, sending me to hell, waving her fat, sweaty arms and screaming screaming for rent because the world has failed us both.

The K-1500P-D (desk) and K-1500P-W (wall) phones features a standard wall or desk configuration with a built-in ringer. Both are available in two colors: red or ash.
The K-1500P-D or K-1500P-W can be used on an analog PABX station port or standard C.O. line to receive calls. It can also be used with a dedicated ringdown circuit, such as Viking's DLE-200B, to provide cost effective point-to-point communications.
