Crash passenger: We just dropped - CNN.com
Topic: Current Events 4:40 am EST, Jan 19, 2008

Eyewitness Neil Jones said the plane had made a "very, very unusual approach" to the airport and sounded louder than usual, PA reported.

"The aircraft was banking to the left and it was coming in very low over the surrounding houses," Jones said. "The plane was significantly lower than it would normally be.

"You could see the pilot was desperate, trying to get the plane down. The aircraft hit the grass and there was a lot of dirt. The pilot was struggling to keep the plane straight. I think he did a great job."

Two engines 'did not respond' - CNN.com
Topic: Current Events 4:34 am EST, Jan 19, 2008

"At approximately 600ft and two miles from touch down, the Autothrottle demanded an increase in thrust from the two engines but the engines did not respond.

"Following further demands for increased thrust from the Autothrottle, and subsequently the flight crew moving the throttle levers, the engines similarly failed to respond. The aircraft speed reduced and the aircraft descended onto the grass short of the paved runway surface."

Just flew on one of these from Hawaii to Chicago. They're my favorite planes... hope this isn't a widespread issue.

Core Training for Preventing Surfing Injuries
Topic: Health and Wellness 1:40 am EST, Jan 19, 2008

Surfers need abdominal and core strength
Nothing gets you in shape for surfing quite as well as actual surfing, but adding these core and balance exercises to your training routine will make your next surfing trip a lot more enjoyable and decrease your risk of injury.

The muscles of your core are essential to developing power and stability – two key factors for proper surfing technique. A strong core helps you surf with more power, for longer periods with less fatigue. If your typical core workout consists of crunches or sit-ups, you will find that adding exercises for the chest, shoulders, back, hips and gluts will improve your surfing quickly.

Add the following circuit to your routine about 4-6 weeks prior to your surf trip. They should be done one after the other in a circuit fashion, with at most, thirty seconds rest between exercises

Surfing and Staying Fit
Topic: Health and Wellness 10:41 pm EST, Jan 18, 2008

Surfing is a very unique sport, in that there are many different elements to deal with; a surfboard, constant changes of the ocean, other surfers, sea pest, and the sun. Basically it is a very hectic sport. You always have to be on top of it or you are going to get hurt or to the extreme you can lose your life. Now I have your attention, lets talk specificity of training and surfing. When training for specificity, you want to perform exercises that will mimic what you do in the water. No I don't want you to flail around like a kook at the gym. Your exercises should be as close to what a surfing maneuver looks like, be it a cut back or a simple paddle. Obviously we cannot duplicate all of the surfing maneuvers out there, but we can try our best. If it looks like surfing, and smells like surfing, you are the right track, it should help your surfing.

SURFOLOGY - Training for Surfing
Topic: Health and Wellness 10:10 pm EST, Jan 18, 2008

INTRO
Surfing has given me many unforgettable years of fun, health and recreation. After teaching beginning surfers for more than 20 years, I've seen the long list of obstacles that they have to overcome in order to learn. To put it bluntly, surfing literally takes years to master. But with the help of this instruction, you should be able to avoid many of the common mistakes that students make.

CROSS TRAINING
It always helps to start when you're young, but age isn't nearly as important as physical conditioning. The best cross-training for surfing is swimming.

As I discovered, surfing is hard work.

'Dilbert's' 9-point financial plan worthy of economics Nobel - MarketWatch
Topic: Business 2:22 am EST, Jan 17, 2008

Fortunately for America's 95 million investors, Adams' secret nine-point formula was finally revealed in "Dilbert and the Way of the Weasels." Notice its simple brilliance in the exact reproduction of his formula:

1.
Make a will
2.
Pay off your credit cards
3.
Get term life insurance if you have a family to support
4.
Fund your 401k to the maximum
5.
Fund your IRA to the maximum
6.
Buy a house if you want to live in a house and can afford it
7.
Put six months worth of expenses in a money-market account
8.
Take whatever money is left over and invest 70% in a stock index fund and 30% in a bond fund through any discount broker and never touch it until retirement
9.
If any of this confuses you, or you have something special going on (retirement, college planning, tax issues), hire a fee-based financial planner, not one who charges a percentage of your portfolio

Adams boldly states that this is "everything you need to know about personal investing." In just 129 words, nine simple points, one page you have the unabridged "Unified Theory of Everything Financial." That's it. Everything!
