Antioxidant combo may prevent some migraines - Yahoo! News |

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Daily doses of antioxidants may reduce the frequency and severity of migraine headaches for patients who don't response to drug treatment, a small new study suggests. ADVERTISEMENT Eleven men and women with a long history of migraine did not respond to several type of drugs, including beta-blockers, antidepressants and anticonvulsants, had fewer and less severe headaches, on average, after taking capsules containing an extract of pine bark, vitamin C and vitamin E every day for three months, according to a report in the journal Headache. There is evidence that damaging molecules known as free radicals, which are produced by normal metabolism, may contribute to the development of migraine, Dr. Sirichai Chayasirisobhon of Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Anaheim, California notes. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals and could thus help prevent migraine from occurring. To investigate, he treated 12 patients to 10 capsules containing 120 mg pine bark extract, 60 mg vitamin C and 30 IU vitamin E every day for three months. Study participants completed a test designed to assess the amount of disability caused by migraine, known as MIDAS, before and after the three-month treatment period. Eleven patients completed the trial. After three months, the patients had an average 50.6-percent improvement in MIDAS scores. In the three months before the treatment, they reported an average of 44.4 days of headache, compared to 26.0 days during the three-month treatment. Before treatment, participants rated their headache severity, on average, as 7.5 out of 10; this fell to 5.5 out of 10 after treatment. Two patients showed no reduction in disability, headache severity or headache days after treatment. When the analysis was limited to the nine responders, MIDAS scores showed a 67.9 percent reduction. The findings suggest "that this antioxidant supplementation may mitigate some as yet unknown mechanisms involved in a migraine attack," Chayasirisobhon writes. He concludes: "The substantial effect shown by the antioxidant formulation in the present study in lessening the impact of migraine on patients' daily activities warrants further investigation."

● The interstates were originally designed to be able to run military equipment from coast to coast on flatbed trailers at sustained speeds of 75 mph. ● Did you know that if you're on interstate 5, you have 5% of the U.S. left to the west of you? If you are on interstate 95, you have 95% left to the west of you? ● If you are on interstate 20, you have 20% of the U.S. left to the south of you? If you are on interstate 90, you have 90% left to the south of you? ● ALL [or mostly all] interstates going east or west have EVEN numbers. ALL interstates going north or south have ODD numbers. ● If a city bypass has an even number it loops [called a LOOP] back to the same interstate. i.e. I-440 ends back up on I-40. ● If a city bypass has an odd number it does NOT loop [called a SPUR] back to the same interstate. i.e. I-540 does not come back to I-40.

ntroduction One of the more common themes present on the various MySQL forums and mailing lists is that of data migration. Typically requests are made by users of Microsoft Access and Microsoft SQL Server who are looking to migrate their data (and client applications) to a MySQL database. Developers often ask for tools that can be used to convert an Access database to MySQL (or convert an MSSQL database to MySQL), without realizing that there is more to migrating an application to MySQL than simply converting data. In this article I will cover the basics of migrating an application from an Access or SQL Server database to MySQL. We'll start with various reasons why you should (or should not) migrate your existing Access or SQL Server database to MySQL, then cover the planning stages of an application migration. Next we will look at the tools and methods for migrating your actual data from Access/MSSQL to MySQL, followed by some general guidelines for modifying your client application from a Microsoft database to MySQL. Finally, we'll look at some considerations to make when deploying your new MySQL database and application.

It is providing a vet, a dog behaviourist and a nurse at next week’s inaugural session — in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire. They will teach techniques to doting owners, hoping that this will result in superior communication with their dogs and fewer complaints about barking. The different noises made by dogs have been identified as grunts, whines, yelps, screams, howls, growls, coughs, barks, tooth snapping and panting. While this cacophony might sound overwhelming to the untrained ear, dog owners will learn whether the sounds mean that their pet wants a walk, a wee or a fresh can of food. Apparent meanings can include a friendly greeting, an invitation to play, a signal of distress or defence. Other noises indicate that the animal is under threat, submissive, wanting contact, attention seeking or contact seeking.
