Great news — Workforce Management reports that a growing number of companies are willing to foot the bill for telecommuters to work in coworking spaces. They offer the example of Chris Jurney, a senior programmer with Relic Entertainment, who left the company, and Vancouver, to move to Philadelphia.

Corporations Picking Up Bill for Co-Working Chris Jurney loves his job as a senior programmer of video games with Relic Entertainment. So when he moved from Vancouver, British Columbia, to Philadelphia because of his wife’s work, he was worried that he might not be able to return to his job. But after a stint at a sister company, Jurney was thrilled that his bosses at Relic said he could come back to work for them and telecommute from his home in Philadelphia. But as many teleworkers soon realize, working from home can quickly lose its appeal. “I was going totally stir crazy,” Jurney says. The 31-year-old pitched a new idea to his boss. He found a place called Independents Hall just 30 minutes from his home, where he could share office space, have his own desk, free Internet, a conference room and all the coffee he could drink for $275 a month.nullnull

So with that, here are the details of the next Open Coffee. We’re going to do it on August 27th from 2pm until 5pm or so at Cafe Intermezzo Dunwoody across from Perimeter Mall (unlike the Starbucks at Georgia Tech, there is definitely free WiFi from 10am until 7pm at Cafe Intermezzo). Some of you may realize that this is the same day as Capital Lounge. Hopefully Open Coffee will be the pre-lounge get together for some of you. I’m planning on grabbing some food after Open Coffee (perhaps at Alon’s?) and before heading to Capital Lounge. Feel free to plan for that and tag along with me. I’d be happy to have the company.

ATLANTA--(Business Wire)-- Noro-Moseley Partners, ("NMP"), a leading regional venture capital fund, announced today the addition of Greg Foster to its investment team. Greg will strengthen the firm's focus in technology investments, with a specific emphasis on opportunities in digital media. Already, one of the five investments NMP has made from its new fund, NMP VI LP, is in the digital media space. "Greg's specific expertise in digital media, as well as his experience as a technology entrepreneur, will enhance our ability to aggressively pursue opportunities in both of these dynamic areas," said NMP Managing Partner Mike Elliott. "Greg will be a valuable addition to our team, and we are excited to have him onboard." Foster added that, in addition to the rapid growth the region has experienced in technology investing, advancements in digital media have made the space very attractive for entrepreneurs and venture investors alike. "I am excited about joining the NMP team and look forward to working with entrepreneurs in building high-growth companies here in the region," Foster said. Most recently, Foster was Vice-President of Corporate Development for Turner Broadcasting, where he was responsible for Turner New Media Investments, the company's early stage strategic investment arm, as well as M & A activities. Foster joined Turner after it acquired his company, Southern Direct, a business focused on building branded e-commerce extensions to linear cable channels. In addition to founding Southern Direct, Foster has been a member of the management team of two other start-ups, serving as SVP of Corporate Development at iXL and VP of Business and Corporate Development at Silverpop Systems. null

Charlie Paparelli drew a huge huge crowd recently at ATDC where he spoke on how to get to a second investor meeting. Charlie entertained and spoke plainly about the most critical aspects to building a successful and fundable business. Charlie also shared his deep passion for entrepreneurship, quoting Shakespeare “to thine own self be-true.” He shared how Richard Brock brought him out of the boring world of being a CPA doing paid management work to his true passion of entrepreneurship. He encouraged all entrepreneurs in the group and applauded their efforts.
