There are two bookstores on the campus, the Campus Bookstore (marked bookstore on your map) and the Tata Bookstore (marked TBS on the map). Both are located near the coffee board and offer 20% discount on books. You may also place an order for any book you need by filling up a form at these bookstores. There are several other bookstores in Bangalore. For technical books, you may visit Bangalore Book House ( Margosa Road, 17th Cross, Malleswaram), Sapna (Gandhinagar) and Gangarams (MG Road). For fiction and other non-technical books, good bookstores are the Bangalore Book House (Margosa Road, 17th Cross, Malleswaram), Strand (Manipal center) and Fountainhead (Lavelle Road).

This is the finest scientific bookstore on planet earth. It is not very large, but it compensates with density. The place is packed from floor to ceiling with books covering every topic you could imagine, from computer science to biochemistry to Richard Feynman's latest book on science in general.

I walked in looking for two computer books. I walked out with 5 books, that would cost well over $200 in the US... for about $40. 9" of softback books (these books only come in hardback in the US), at about $4.50 per technical book inch. You can't beat that. This store carries the "Low Price Edition" of most any book you are looking for. If you are building a technical library, it might actually be cheaper to fly here and buy the books, then take them home.

The TATA Bookstore is located on the campus of the IISC, the place where the President of India engineered the Indian Atomic Bomb, as well as their ballistic missles. There is a coffee shop next door, where you can read and mingle with India's best scientific minds. There is also an excellent library, and a campus bookstore that I haven't yet visited. This is the Garden City, and the campus is full of lush greenery. A truly wonderful place for a geek.
