Welcome to Churchill Grounds - Atlanta's Premiere Jazz Club There is one phrase that stands out when most people think about Churchill Grounds - "The Good Life" At Churchill Grounds, we strive to promote the better things in life, helping to remind you of the classics of days gone by while introducing you to those classics being created today. America's only true native art form - Jazz Music exemplifies our commitment to this cause. There is no other form of music that embodies the sophistication, eloquence, passion, spontaneity and emotion that jazz communicates to its' audience. At Churchill Grounds we seek out only the most dedicated and talented jazz musicians to help maintain Jazz as a forefront in modern music. Our commitment to this art form is not only to accomplished jazz musicians such as Cedar Walton, Freddie Cole, Loston Harris, Chico Freeman, Donald Harrison, Marcus Printup, Philip Harper and Russell Gunn, but also to its' growth and future by locally searching for the next Wynton Marsalis, Miles Davis, Duke Ellington or Louis Armstrong.

The paper I used was Aluminum Oxide in grits 50, 80, and 100, and Silicon Carbide (wet-or-dry to you lay people) in grits of 150, 180, 220, 320, 400, 600, 1200, and 2000. The plate glass was placed with its edge flush to the edge of the workbench. Scary Sharp Sharpening System |

This is a bilbiography of the work of John Bellairs. My mom read these to my and my brother when we were kids. A friend had one sitting on top of his toilet, and I cracked it open. Then I stole it. Cause they're still entertaining. John Bellairs is the bomb. The illustrations by Edward Gorey are the bomb. These books make me feel cozy and content. Harry Potter can kiss my ass. One of the most densely populated metropolitan areas in the world, Hong Kong has an overall density of nearly 6,700 people per square kilometer. The majority of its citizens live in flats in high-rise buildings. In Architecture of Density, Wolf investigates these vibrant city blocks, finding a mesmerizing abstraction in the buildings' facades.
These are amazing photographs. I wish I could go to the exhibition. MICHAEL WOLF |

These are a series of very impressive images showing the scale of American consumerism. The author attempts to show how bad our consumerism is... and frankly, I'm not with it. Not that materialism is not bad. its just that... any functioning economy in a nation this big will have artifacts like these. I'm familiar with the shipping stuff, and to be honest... that shot of the inside of a 40 foot ocean container gave me flashbacks to unloading floor-packed boxes of weenie whistles, over a million of them, in a container that was 130F towards the top. Jesus God. Anyway, don't click the 'statement' button. Just click the 'images' button. These are very, very impressive images. God Bless America. Artistic works traditionally carry significance beyond their physical beauty, but a new sculpture in the McAllister Building headquarters of the Penn State Department of Mathematics may carry that tradition to its limits.
Add to list of stuff to see before I croak. 3D sculpture depicts 'shadow' of a 4D object |

A new twist on an old myth by Nina Paley
This is a very impressive series of cartoons about Hindu mythology. I haven't seen a contemporary version of these stories before this... it makes them feel very much alive. Watch these. Recommend these. They are great. The Sitayana by Nina Paley |

"A preposterous but utterly enchanting story about a young Indian boy adrift in a lifeboat with his good friend, a Bengal tiger, and some other zoo animals." E-gads, how did I miss this book? It won the Man Booker prize in 2003. It is the bomb shits. The Life of Pi, by Yann Martel (Salon Review) |

Arthur Ganson MACHINES That about says it all. Amazing video of knife throwing machine, atrichoke leaf walking... complicated and beautiful machines that express the creator's fascination with motion and engineering. As seen on Nova Science Now. Arthur Ganson's Machines / Kinetic Sculpture |
