Follow Us - Twitter | Like Us - Facebook | Follow Us - Digg | Newiphone5.net The iPhone 5 train won’t arrive next week, but the engine which drives it will appear on the horizon. iOS 5, the operating system which will drive the iPhone 5, iPad 2, iPod touch 4 and future iOS devices which arrive in the next year, can be trusted to surface in preview form during next week’s WWDC keynote address. Don’t look for an immediate release or even a soon-ish one, as the event is focused on development and the preview is aimed at ensuring that the iOS app developers in attendance have the knowledge they need in order to rev their existing and new titles to take advantage of the new software features by the time iOS 5 arrives. Apple already telegraphed that there won’t be a June iPhone 5 when it pushed the white iPhone 4 out the door at the end of April, but the iOS tease should give users a good idea of what all the fifth generation iPhone. After all, the on-screen features of a three inch device tend to be at least as vital as the hardware features. Here’s a look at some of what iOS 5 could deliver. Multitasking: Last year’s iOS 4 delivered a basic multitasking implementation which, as some users have pointed out, was really more along the lines of fast app switching. iOS 5 could give iPhone 5 users true multitasking, where third party apps can run more fully in the background. AirPlay and AirPrint: These planned “iOS 4″ features didn’t arrive until iOS 4.2.1 and even then they were stunted. iOS 5 could give iPhone 5 users the ability to print wirelessly to any printer hooked up to any computer, rather than the limited implementation currently offered. Homeless: Talk of the iPhone 5 losing its tactile home button in favor of a gesture-based home trigger would mean that iOS 5 would need to work for not only the “homeless” iPhone 5 but also devices like the iPad 2 which clearly still has a home button. Will Apple go there? Compatibility: Those who don’t plan to buy the iPhone 5 will be paying close attention to what Apple has to say about iOS 5 backwards compatibility. It’s a given that this year’s iPad 2 and next year’s iPad 3 will be able to take full advantage of iOS 5 features, while the aging iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4 should be able to at least tap into most of the iOS 5 era. But what about the iPhone 3GS? After all, Apple is still selling that model in the bargain bin. After last year’s fiasco in which iOS 4 was released for the aging iPhone 3G but it ran unacceptably until a couple major updates into the iOS 4 era, those with a 3GS may be skeptical about installing iOS 5. Then again, those users may do well to simply get the iPhone 5 when it comes out. Just don’t expect to hear the words “iPhone 5″ spoken by Apple next week, even as those watching look for clues as to what the iPhone 5 will entail. Here’s more on the iPhone 5. Follow Us - Twitter | Like Us - Facebook | Follow Us - Digg | Newiphone5.net Analysts at Jefferies had initially called the iPhone 5 release date for fall 2011, the released date has now been pushed back. New low cost iPhone also due to be released. On the 14 April The Economy News reported that technology analysts at investment bank Jefferies had called the iPhone 5 release date for September / October 2011. A new analyst note on Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) released today shows that Jefferies analysts now see a released date for iPhone 5 in June 2012. iPhone 4S is now due in the fall. The note, released by analyst Peter Misek says: "We believe iPhone sales will reaccelerate due to: 1) New lower-cost iPhone, 2) iPhone 4S in the Fall followed by iPhone 5 in June 2012, 3) More carriers. Overall we reiterate our Buy/$500 target with the stock likely to appreciate ahead of multiple CQ4 catalysts." Jefferies believe Apple Inc could enter the smartphone mid-market with a $300 iPhone with margins around the current corporate average. "Our checks increasingly point to a launch within the next 6-18 months. We believe that this will increase AAPL's TAM by an additional 500M phones per year," says Misek. A potential low cost iPhone? Misek writes: "We believe Apple will take the 3GS and move it down the cost curve by asking suppliers to take a 10% to 20% haircut to retain this potentially very high volume SKU. The combined cost could be in the $150 to $180 neighborhood allowing Apple to price this device in the sweet spot of the prepaid market and the emerging market carriers where large subsidies are not the norm. "Will the new iPhone cannibalize existing sales? We do not think so as we believe that Apple will have a multi-tiered strategy for their services. "New OSs and services will only be compatible one generation in arrears, meaning a device like the 3GS that will be two generations old following the launch of the 4GS can be significantly differentiated from higher end SKUs while allowing users to experience an Apple product. For example, we believe this fall the 4S and iPhone 4 will both be able to run iOS 5, which will be necessary to run the new cloud-based services. "And while 3GS owners will not be able to use these services, they will still have a device that we see as superior to many of the products at the $300 ASP level. For the competition we see this as negative for Android vendors, Research in Motion (RIMM, $42.85, Underperform) and Nokia (NOK1V FH, €4.75, Underperform)." iPhone 5 - 4G For AT&T, Not Verizon |

Follow Us - Twitter | Like Us - Facebook | Follow Us - Digg | Newiphone5.net Many say it’s too soon to tell, but AT&T might have weathered the storm of losing iPhone exclusivity. While speculation runs wild – again – as to whether Apple will announce the fifth-generation iPhone at its Worldwide Developers Conference this week, at least one analyst says AT&T has not only held its own since the release of the Verizon iPhone earlier this year, but its future against its wireless rival is bright. Analyst firm Hudson Square predicts the next-generation iPhone 5 – which most are calling the 4G S – will be compatible with AT&T’s 4G LTE network, but not Verizon’s, according to Dow Jones Newswires. The two networks operate on different spectrum bands. AT&T announced last week that its high-speed LTE network would make its debut in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio this summer, reaching 70 million Americans by the end of the year. The iPhone has been one reason for Verizon’s stock jump in the past year – up 36 percent. But surprisingly, AT&T hasn’t lagged far behind, approaching a 30 percent hike in the past 12 months. And Hudson Square expects a new iPhone that favors AT&T’s 4G speeds over Verizon’s 3G would be a major coup for the carrier – enough so that it has upgraded AT&T’s stock-investment rating from “hold" to “buy" and downgraded Verizon’s from “hold" to “sell." We might argue that this prognosis of AT&T’s health in relation to the iPhone is a bit premature. Many owners are still tied up in AT&T contracts and haven’t had a chance to switch to Verizon without taking on a significant cancellation fee. But AT&T might be able to wash away all talk of its oft-bashed, unreliable network if its LTE debut is successful this summer, and if indeed there’s better reason to pick the carrier over its prime competitor when the iPhone 5 comes out. Next Week’s WWDC: iCloud, Lion OS X, iOS 5, No New iPhone? |

Follow Us - Twitter | Like Us - Facebook | Follow Us - Digg | Newiphone5.net It has become a yearly tradition for Apple chief executive Steve Jobs to come out during the company's annual Worldwide Developer's Conference (WWDC) and introduce the company's next iPhone. However, it doesn't look like that will be the case this time around. While the iPhone 5 could still come, many are predicting the pre-announcement of what will be announced was a matter of curbing people's expectations. "They're definitely setting expectations," Gene Munster, an analyst with Piper Jaffray & Co, said to The Wall St. Journal. One analyst firm, Zacks Equity Research, does say Apple could swerve consumers and still introduce the new iPhone 5. "Apple has always maintained the utmost secrecy with respect to any product launches. Therefore, while it looks at this point like the pace of innovation is losing steam, we are taking a cautiously optimistic stand," the company said in a blog. What is certain is Apple is introducing iCloud, the company's cloud services offering. Apple will follow in the footsteps of Amazon and others offering a space to store your data. What kind of data Apple will store is up for debate; but many say a virtual music library storage service is likely. Most believe Apple will have an iCloud storage system, which will allow people to store music and then sync it automatically to any Apple related device. Other valuable data, such as TV shows and various iOS apps, could be a part of the storage service. This would allow Apple to free up processing speed for the iPhone. "We also believe that data center expansion will allow Apple to add more value-added features to the iPhone, while assigning the task of storing and processing applications to the cloud. Transfer of the storage function to the cloud would also be beneficial for Apple, since this could lower hardware costs. Device speed would also increase," Zacks said. Pricing will be a hot topic for the iCloud service. Amazon set the industry standard when it released its cloud service, giving away 5 GB of free service, which can go up to 20 GB of free storage with the purchase of one mp3 album. Beyond the 20 GB, storage can be bought in intervals of 50GB, 100GB, 200GB, 500GB, and 1,000GB, with each costing $1 per gigabye. Thus you get 1,000 GB for $1,000. Along with iCloud, Apple is also set to introduce the next version of the Mac operating system, Lion as well as the next iOS. Lion is eighth major release of Apple's PC operating system and iOS 5 is the fifth major release of the smartphone/iPad operating system. Samsung Wants Apple To Hand Over Ipad 3 And Iphone 5 |

Follow Us - Twitter | Like Us - Facebook | Follow Us - Digg | Newiphone5.netTABLET AND SMARTPHONE MAKER Samsung has escalated its patent dispute with Apple by asking a court to force Apple to hand over the Ipad 3 and Iphone 5. The request follows a previous court order by US District Court Judge Lucy Koh in early May that required Samsung to give Apple a number of its upcoming Galaxy smartphone and tablet models, in addition to other potentially infringing products. Samsung argues that this puts the company at a "significant disadvantage" by allowing Apple access to its new products without returning the favour. Samsung claims that it should have the next-generation Iphone and Ipad so that it can "prepare its defence", according to Reuters. The dispute began when Apple sued Samsung in mid-April, claiming it "slavishly" copied its design and packaging. A week later Samsung countersued, claiming that Apple's products infringe its patents. This latest move is another tit-for-tat action in the heated litigation. Samsung used to be one of Apple's allies, supplying it with £3.7 billion worth of chips and parts in 2010. However, tensions grew between the companies as Samsung's products, which run Google's Android operating system, became the primary competition to Apple. The Galaxy Tab is the biggest threat to the Ipad, while the Samsung Galaxy S handset was used as the base for the Nexus S, Google's second own-branded Android smartphone. This strong relationship with Google is likely a factor in Samsung's souring relationship with Apple, particularly given the remarkable growth of Android devices over the past year and the impact that has had on Apple's sales. Apple is typically tight-lipped about its upcoming products, so much so that it has a history of going after people who leaked its designs. Foxconn, which assembles Apple products, interrogated people over the leak of an Iphone, while a Gizmodo editor's house was raided after he published information about an Iphone 4 prototype. This secrecy might help Apple keep an advantage in the market that Samsung can use as a defence against Apple's claims, but the same argument could apply to Samsung's products and is unlikely to wash with the court.

Follow Us - Twitter | Like Us - Facebook | Follow Us - Digg | Newiphone5.net Speculations have been rising about the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 arrival dates as well as upgraded hardware specifications. The iPhone 4S will come with an 8 megapixel camera along with a SIM built-in design, which will not require SIM cards. Though there were contradictory reports that UK carrier Orange is developing new and smaller micro-SIM cards for Apple. The iPhone 4S will also be equipped with ARM technology in its Cortex A9 processor. There were rumors about Apple going with a dual core processor, mimicking a trend set by Android smartphones. Other hardware upgrades include additional internal antennas that can serve as an international phone with CDMA and GSM. This also allows the device to be compatible with both Verizon and AT&T networks. The launch for iPhone 4S is said to be sometime in the late summer month possibly as early as July. As for the iPhone 5, it will make its debut in the spring of 2012 according to rumors. It has not been confirmed if the iPhone 5 will also use the next generation low temperature poly-silicon LCD that is rumored for the iPhone 6. Apple has already hired Sharp to be the manufacturer for the new technology displays, making the device lighter and thinner. That could mean OLED will be a thing of the past for iPhone devices. iPhone 5 4G - Compatibility |

Follow Us - Twitter | Like Us - Facebook | Follow Us - Digg | Newiphone5.net The iPhone 5 must support a laundry list of incompatible cellular networks if it wants to embrace 4G, as any iPhone user who lives in Smalltown USA can attest. Even amidst talk of whether the iPhone 5 could support the 4G LTE being pushed by Verizon and AT&T, the broader-yet-slower 4G variants popularized by Sprint and T-Mobile, or both, the 4G two-headed coin is actually more of a triangle. Any discussion of the next iPhone and the next network must include a chapter on backwards compatibility. And that third prong of the discussion is a complicated one. 4G will theoretically replace all previous cellular networks eventually. But try telling that to those AT&T iPhone users, for instance, who are still waiting for 3G to arrive in their small sized hometowns (hint: it never will). As such, the iPhone 5 will have those folks still living on the edge, literally, as AT&T’s decrepit EDGE network is still all they have to feast on for now. So where does this leave Apple? With a mess. If there is to be a single iPhone 5 which works for both Verizon and AT&T customers, it’ll need to support Verizon’s CDMA network, AT&T’s 3G GSM network, and AT&T’s EDGE network. And that’s on top of 4G LTE, which both carriers desperately want included, yet neither carrier can seem to build out their 4G LTE network swiftly enough to make their collective litany of older networks excludable. Apple could opt to make the 4G iPhone 5 puzzle simpler from a technological angle by opting for continued complication at the retail level: separate 4G iPhone 5 models, one for Verizon which talks to 4G LTE and CDMA, and one for AT&T which works with 4G LTE and 3G GSM and EDGE. Or there’s the other method which no one seems to be rooting for but which would simplify things quite a bit: leave 4G out of the iPhone 5 equation entirely and instead make a hybrid model which merely supports the Verizon and AT&T networks which have actually been built yet. If the iPhone 5 arrives without 4G, some may be tempted to blame anything from Apple’s stubbornness to the incompatibility within the 4G ranks; if the iPhone 5 expands to T-Mobile and/or Sprint, the 4G prospects would be even messier. But what it really comes down to is the millions of small town folks who will be lining up to buy the iPhone 5 in a region where they’re still living on the edge (network). And before you go blaming those folks, keep in mind it’s not their fault that the carriers never did finish building their current-generation networks before they began getting all googly-eyed about the next one. So what do you think? Will the iPhone 5 include 4G? Post your thoughts below. Here’s more on the iPhone 5. Follow Us - Twitter | Like Us - Facebook | Follow Us - Digg | Newiphone5.net |

iPhone 5 Release Date Reveal Won’t Happen During WWDC 2011? |

Follow Us - Twitter | Like Us - Facebook | Follow Us - Digg | Newiphone5.netI really hate having to go back and forth with claims surrounding iPhone 5‘s release date and when it will actually be announced. It was said that it won’t be during WWDC 2011, then it will, and now, TechCrunch believes it will NOT. “…we’re hearing that Apple is pushing for journalists to come to WWDC because the software announcements will be huge (and they likely know that journalists hearing there will be no iPhone 5 announcement may choose to stay home instead this year). And the changes will be vital for all developers in the Apple ecosystem(s) to know about.” If you must remember, speculations rose that a hardware will be demoed during this year’s WWDC keynote because Apple is pushing on international journalists to attend the event. TechCrunch says that the new iOS is so massive that this alone should attract international journos. And remember, this isn’t just about iOS 5. This is about Apple’s entire software backbone. iOS and OS X are both about to receive massive upgrades at the same time. And both will likely be extensively previewed at WWDC. Add to this Apple’s cloud announcements (which may or may not include the “iCloud” music stuff) and you suddenly have a WWDC that looks anything but boring, new iPhone or not.
If anything, it’s possibly more about Apple’s Cloud announcements more than anything. Of course, Apple is full of surprises, so there’s always that “one more thing” unpredicted reveal which can be anything really. What do you think? Samsung Demands To See iPhone 5 And iPad 3 |

Follow Us - Twitter | Like Us - Facebook | Follow Us - Digg | Newiphone5.netWell THIS is a wild turn, a wild turn indeed! Samsung and Apple have been at battle for just about forever, this war leading up to the latest street fight in the courtroom. Apple declared their intent to sue Samsung over copyrights that it said were besmirched by Samsung, while Samsung in turn decided it would sue back. Next step was Samsung revealing their battle plan, and UH oh, Apple won early access to Samsung’s phones/tablets! That’s not the half of it. Now we find that Samsung is demanding to get early access to both the iPhone 5 and the iPad 3. What we’re seeing here is a motion filed Friday night by Samsung’s lawyers that requests Apple deliver their plans for the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 “final, commercial version(s)”, including both the units and the final versions of the packaging as well as the inserts that will be a part of them. Samsung’s reasoning is that these devices will be on the market at the same time as the DROID Charge and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and they’d like to prepare potential legal action in case the devices show enough similarity to their counterparts. What does this mean? I wont go into too massive a torrent of analysis here, but basically it means there isn’t going to be an inch of advancement allowed on either side of the line drawn in the sand. Samsung notes that they want the “final, commercial versions” of the devices by June 13, 2011 OR, if these devices aren’t available at that time, they’ll accept “the most current version of each to be produced instead.” Samsung doesn’t appear to KNOW that Apple is producing new versions of the iPad or the iPhone, but everyone in the world “knows,” if you know what I mean. They’re acting off of “internet reports” and “Apple’s past practice.” One of the most important points here for us, the adoring fans and consumers, is that Samsung has promised that they’d work with the same rules that Apple put forth when they filed for access to Samsung’s products: that only the lawyers would get to see anything Apple produces – noone at Samsung and noone in the streets. Have a look at a couple of the sheets from this legal report below – and let us know what you think will happen. Who will emerge victorious – and do you think Samsung will win this particular battle? p>Follow Us - Twitter | Like Us - Facebook | Follow Us - Digg | Newiphone5.net Samsung Demands To See iPhone 5 And iPad 3 |

Follow Us - Twitter | Like Us - Facebook | Follow Us - Digg | Newiphone5.net With the Arab Spring turning everyday citizens with cell phones into witnesses — sometimes the only witnesses — on tumultuous events, the time for the citizen journalism app has definitely arrived. There are currently dozens of apps in iTunes available for people to submit news tips; some simply offer a way for people to send in local story ideas, others target specific networks and users can send pics and video directly to newsrooms. Most are free — which speaks to how badly news organizations want no-cost, on-the-ground global coverage. 1. Meporter Launched to much fanfare at a recent TechCrunch Disrupt conference, this is currently the only app not affiliated with just one news network. And, perhaps more importantly for freelancers, the company may also pay users who create content by licensing it to news orgs for them. Until CNN comes knocking, you can also upload your own reports and broadcast them from the app. 2. CNN The latest version of the iPhone app lets citizen journalists view, record and submit video and photo reports to the U.S. news network’s citizen journalism program iReport. 3. AP Mobile In addition to viewing the Associated Press content from around the globe, you can zap photos and tips directly to newsroom editors with the “Send to AP” button. They assure that user info is solely used to verify the tip or to gather more information. 4. Al Jazeera The latest version of the Doha-based news network app launched in February includes a citizen journalism feature, though somewhat disappointingly users must send material through the default email app after clicking on the “Your Media” button. 5. Groundviews From the award-winning citizen journalism site of the same name in Sri Lanka, this app targets users in Southeast Asia. You can submit photos and short reports directly from the app as well as see what your neighbors are uploading.
