Apple fans are keeping fingers crossed as to what CEO Steve Jobs will tell them about iPhone 5 when he makes the (WWDC) on Monday in San Francisco. There is buzz over iPhone 5 features and the form factor as well as about the ability of iOS 5 to trump Android. However, the main point of contention seems to be the release date.
Now, an analyst has said the iPhone 5 will be launched in September, and he does give some good reasons too.
The next generation Apple iPhone will come out in September of this year, and that the recent launch of the White iPhone 4 lends credence to this point, says Brian White, an analyst for Ticonderoga Securities.
According to him the release decision regarding iPhone 5 has become more of a function of marketing and sales than technical. White contends that the launch of White iPhone 4 helped Apple make large amounts during a potential dry period between two major launches. Apple was wise to launch the White iPhone 4 recently after a series of delays as it helped mitigate customer fatigue over waiting for the new iPhone 5.
The next generation iPhone would have made it to the stores in June this year; but the company may have strategically put off iPhone 5 launch to September, when the company starts its forthcoming financial year. White points out that consumers tend to put off iPhone purchase in the quarter preceding the launch of the new device. With the launch of the white iPhone 4 Apple ensured a seamless sales momentum going into the revised launch window for the iPhone 5.
So, will September have a date with iPhone 5? Most market pointer say 'yes' though there is also a strong line of thinking that Apple will indeed unveil at WWDC, its flagship event. Over to WWDC and Steve Jobs.
