Amazon and Google have put their names in the hat, but Apple seems to take their sweet time. It looks like they’re thisclose and may even release it before iPhone 5! “Apple has reached licensing accords with Sony Corp.’s music division, EMI Group and Warner Music Group, the people said. Universal Music Group, the largest recording company, is close to a deal, another person said. The company also would need to reach agreements with music publishers, which control different rights than the labels.” I’m not sure as to whether Amazon and Google have or will have agreements with record companies like what Apple is trying to accomplish. It seems like Amazon/Google is aiming more of a Grooveshark system and Apple is doing a Spotify.
