Eminem's Publisher Sues Apple Over Song
Topic: Arts 7:49 pm EST, Feb 24, 2004

Isn't it ironic, dont'cha think? ;) I thought hip hop family tradition was based very closely with using someone else's music w/o permission ie vanilla ice, Puffy and hordes of other digital samplers.

DETROIT, Feb 24, 2004 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- Rapper Eminem's music publisher is suing Apple Computer Inc., claiming the company used one of the hip-hop superstar's songs in a television advertisement without permission.

Deja Vu and it's Mad Max / Road Warrior all over again. It must be pretty difficult to numerically model an apocalypse on the Cray.

Universe Has At Least 30 Billion Years Left
Topic: Science 11:04 pm EST, Feb 21, 2004

Phewww! That was a close one. I was only betting on 29 billion years.

The new findings support Einstein's cosmological constant, which modern cosmologists say implies that dark energy should not characteristically change over time. If that's right, the universe will continue to expand at an accelerating forever.

The new results suggest that even if Einstein and modern dark energy theory are both wrong, dark energy will not destroy the universe for at least 30 billion years, Riess and his colleagues say.

"Right now we're about twice as confident than before that Einstein's cosmological constant is real, or at least dark energy does not appear to be changing fast enough, if at all, to cause an end to the universe anytime soon," Riess said.

The universe is presently 13.7 billion years old.

Just in time ~ the Anti Valentine
Topic: Current Events 10:27 pm EST, Feb 14, 2004

Send an Anti Valentines Day Card to someone!

Valentine's Day is upon us once more: that special time of year when chocolate manufacturers and greetings card companies encourage you to demonstrate the extent of your fondness in cold, hard, cash (or the satin-hearted equivalent) on February 14th.
This year, celebrate or commiserate by sending an anti-valentine. Send it today, tomorrow, or any day you damn well please. This year, say it with bile.

Conan O'Brien is probably glad to be leaving Canada. And, really, who can blame him?
...
But, clearly, O'Brien was not firing on all comedic cylinders thanks to the controversy of the previous night. That's when Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, a vulgar and recurring character on the show, "pooped" on Quebec with a virulent assault on French Canadians.
..
The politicians wringing their hands yesterday, condemning the segment as racist, demanding to know why public money was used to subsidize such "hatred" and "filth" should start watching satirical comedies.
...
Because, in the end, the reaction to Triumph says more about Canada than America.

The Quebec'ers are an easy target to lampoon. Maybe if they would finally get over themselves, they wouldn't be so funny.
