FOXNews.com - Missouri Car Dealer Offers Free Gun With Car Purchase - Local News | News Articles | National News | US News
Topic: Miscellaneous 3:36 pm EDT, May 22, 2008

BUTLER, Mo. — Salesmen at one Missouri car dealership aren't just kicking in a free CD player or factory air: They're offering a free handgun with every purchase.
Through the end of the month, car buyers at Max Motors in Butler will have a choice — $250 toward either a gun purchase or gasoline.
General manager Walter Moore said that so far, most buyers have chosen the gun, adding that he suggests they opt for a semiautomatic model "because it holds more rounds."
(In the fine print, the ad on the Web site explains, "Check written toward purchase price" and also mentions, "Approved Background Check REQUIRED!!")
Moore said he suspects his "Free Handgun" ad will draw protests in some places. But not in Butler, about 65 miles south of Kansas City.
Moore said, "Down here, we all believe in God, guts and guns."

Too funny! If I didn't own guns already; I'd take the gun - but since I do that's about 1 month of gas for me..

I'm guessing Butler, MO has a low crime rate..

... -> yep, sure does. Geez.. but then again it has a population of less than 5000.

Rex Jameson bikes and swims regularly and plays tennis and skis when time allows. But the 5-foot-11, 180-pound software engineer is lucky if he presses 200 pounds — that is, until he steps into an "exoskeleton" of aluminum and electronics that multiplies his strength and endurance as many as 20 times.

Neato.

The Rods from God
This one would be the hands down winner for spookiest name if the award weren't just a consolation prize—the Rods from God will do just fine competing for the spookiest weapon, regardless of name, thank you very much. They are a kinetic energy device like the railgun, but instead of using electricity to achieve destructive velocities, they use gravity. The still-hypothetical system would be comprised of two satellites in orbit around the Earth. One would house the communications and targeting hardware, while the other would house the rods themselves, each up to a foot in diameter and twenty feet long. To fire, they would simply be released and allowed to fall back to Earth (with a bit of remote guidance). By the time they reached the surface, they'd be traveling at a speed of 36,000 feet per second and carry the destructive force of a nuclear warhead, only with none of the radioactive fallout.

Beside guitars and motorcycle - one of my favorite things is weapons.

The Rods from God - a fantastic non-radioactive concept.

I'd like to drop a few of these in the mountains between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Start the engine; press a button on the right marked "D". As soon as we give the bike any throttle the "N" light goes out and the "D" illuminates. We accelerate away as we would on a scooter. There's no need to worry about a clutch lever or foot-operated gear selection because those things don't exist on the DN-01.

This "automatic/human-friendly" transmission motorcycle from Honda should be out later this year or early next year.

Neat looking - and you don't have to worry about operating a clutch/gear-shifter - so it's more like a scooter in motorcycle form.

I personally am waiting to upgrade my 2007 Yamaha R1 for the hopefully redesigned 2009 R1 - but this bike is interesting.

Students want chance to defend themselves - CNN.com

"Would you rather just sit there and cower underneath a desk when someone executes you or would you rather have a chance to defend your life? That's what it really boils down to."

What do you guys think?

I personally own .....uhm.. many firearms. My opinion here is mixed. College students aren't always the most responsible people - but then again, they CAN carry guns on the street; so why not in the class room?

If a killer came into my class room and was shooting people - AND - I was carrying one of my guns - I certainly would shoot the killer. So in that example - a good idea.

However, colleges + lots of beer and partying + guns --> doesn't sound like the best mix to me either.

If I HAD to make a choice; I'd allow guns in school - and hope that it lowered school shootings rather than raised them. If it did raise them, I'd have to change my answer.

Eco-Terrorism - and my response.

For every story I read about ELF or other eco-terrorist group doing something like this - burning a luxury house, or Hummer dealership, etc - I am likely to respond by damaging the environment.

They burned down a house; which will take 6 months to rebuild... and, it will be rebuilt - which of course essentially means double carbon footprint (caused by it's construction).

They know that - they are just trying to make a statement.

Well you know what - Maybe I should go pour some motor oil into a lake or something in response - which will take years and years to degrade. The fish are the martyrs.. sorry.. go ahead and blame me; and in turn I blame ELF. I feel like making a statement too...
