Natural Remedies For Anxiety
Topic: Health and Wellness 1:45 am EDT, Sep  3, 2008

When choosing a natural remedy for anxiety there is many options to choose from. Herbs, oils, ayurvedic treatments, dietary changes, stress reducers, and even aromatherapy can all help reduce anxiety in a person when exercised accordingly. As with any prescribed medication, natural remedies should be consulted with one who is knowledgeable in order to deter any ill side effects of mixing 2 or more treatments that should not be practiced together.

Some Natural Remedies

Most of the natural remedies that have been formulated focus on how people who suffer from anxiety disorders can relax and calm themselves to relieve the debilitating symptoms of anxiety disorders. Some of these include doing relaxation and breathing exercises, which can help people focus either on their breathing or the exercise they are doing in order to divert their attention from the fear that they would feel if they had an anxiety attack.

One of the first remedies you should consider is exercise. It may appear that exercise is the cure for everything, from losing weight, relieving arthritic pain to decreasing anxiety. Getting regular exercise makes you feel good. Endorphins produced by the body during exercise are hormones that give you the "feel good" feeling. This enables you to replace your anxiety with a more positive feeling.

Kava kava. This herb has been used for stress relief and relaxation, easing anxiety, and curing insomnia. The effects are considered to be similar to the prescription drug valium, but generally without the "mental fog" feeling. It is available in capsule, beverage, tablet, tincture, and extract form. Since the effects are so potent, you need to monitor its effect on you and should be careful what you do after taking it.

Valerian. Sometimes referred to as "herbal Valium," this natural remedy is widely used to relieve anxiety and insomnia. It calms the nervous system, making you feel calm and relaxed instead of stressed. In addition, since it helps you get a great night's sleep, you'll feel more refreshed and ready to face the next day.

Exercise regularly

Exercise is a great way to fight stress. There is research showing that as few as 30 minutes of exercise three to five times a week can provide a lot of anxiety relief. You should also try for at least an hour of aerobic exercise on most days to get the maximum benefit from your workouts.

Relaxation techniques such as mindfulness mediation, progressive muscle relaxation, visualization and controlled breathing can help you reduce anxiety and feel better. But, as with exercise, you do need to practice these techniques regularly.

Change in your diet is also another anxiety natural treatment. Include fish in your diet because fish oil contains omega 3. There are studies that omega 3 has calming effect and reduce anxiety. It is also essential to have enough Vitamin B in your diet because it helps the body to deal with stress. Deficiency in vitamin B may result to anxiety. Green leafy vegetables are good sources of Vitamin B or you could ask your doctor about Vitamin B supplements.
