Israel has completed military rehearsals for a pre-emptive strike against Iran's nuclear power facility at Bushehr, Israeli officials told the London-based Sunday Times. Such a strike is likely if Russia supplies Iran with fuel rods for enriching uranium. The rods, currently stored at a Russian port, are expected to be delivered late next year after a dispute over financial terms is resolved. An Israeli defense source in Tel Aviv, who confirmed that the military rehearsals had taken place, told the paper: "Israel will on no account permit Iranian reactors - especially the one being built in Bushehr with Russian help - to go critical." ... This will be interesting. Report: Israel's 'first strike' plan against Iran ready |

Yes, this is the official word that DOOM 3 has been code released and has been approved for manufacturing! It won't be long now until the anticipation ends and the PH34R begins ;-) We literally just hung up with Activision and have confirmed that our latest release candidate has been mutually approved and is finally GOLD. Thanks to everyone for their patience (yeah right! =) and for everyone at id, Activision and our numerous partners for helping us create what I believe is absolutely the best game we have ever made. So, the next question is release dates. Retailers in the States will be allowed to pick up games starting at 12:01 AM on August 3rd. The official street date is actually August 5th in the U.S.A., but some of your favorite stores will probably have it early for those of you who have to have it first. What I'm concerned about is if there is language that allows for suspension of elections just based on a threat. It looks like this would take a constitutional amendment though. I wonder if they'll try to sneak this into the ban of gay marriage amendment they want. RE: Officials discuss how to delay Election Day |

Saw F911 a couple of days ago. I picked out more distortions than I did when I watched Bowling for Columbine. Moore's track record is getting worse IMHO. Definately good to see the footage from Iraq though. It'd be nice to have the other side of the tale though, some of the victories. I'm not holding my breath on that one though. An unofficial transcript of the first 43 minutes of Fahrenheit 9/11. I still haven't seen it but based on Decius' post I probably will. I was really tired of Moore's spin after Bowling so I thought I'd just wait to see this one on video. Fahrenheit 9/11 Transcript (First 43 minutes) |

What is EffecTV? EffecTV is a real-time video effector. You can watch TV or video through amazing effectors. ... Really cool project for applying realtime video effects to video. With the video loopback device you can chain the effects together for even stranger results. There are a lot of really neat video projects for Linux right now. I wasn't able to get the loopback interface working very happily with 2.6 kernel, but it's not a requirement to enjoy EffecTV. EffecTV |

There was one where everybody has lapel phones. I can't remember the title of that short, but it was really neat for its time. The premise is a guy is introduced into a society where everybody is walking around with these phones and constantly talking into them, ignoring actual people as they walk by, having conversations with the air. Not accustomed to it, the guy goes mad, and the way it was filmed conveys that frustration very well. I always used that as an analogy for the current cell phone craze. Now that they lapel phones are coming, I see Bradbury as prophetic. Here's to hoping Fahrenheit 451 doesn't come true though. [EDIT] This is the episode: http://www.scifilm.org/tv/raybradbury/raybradbury5-2.html In the TV adaptation, they used lapel phones rather than radio wrist-watches. ... Bradbury scored yet another prognostication bull's-eye in his 1953 short story "The Murderer," wherein a man is imprisoned for wrecking "machines that yak-yak-yak." The most offensive devices were the "radio wristwatch" communicators. Said the electronics murderer: "... my friends and wife phoned every five minutes. What is there about such 'conveniences' that makes them so temptingly convenient? ... Convenient for my office, so when I'm in the field with my radio car there's no moment when I'm not in touch. In touch! There's a slimy phrase. Touch, hell. Gripped! Pawed, rather." As retribution, the murderer jams radio wristwatch signals on a commuter bus and delights in the "terrible, unexpected silence" he creates: "The bus inhabitants faced with having to converse with each other." I was listening to the radio this morning. It was a talk show. Steve Gill was talking with Charlene, one of the owners ( I suppose ) of the Palm downtown. They were talking about a fundraiser going on for prostate cancer research. $500 a plate. They were talking about how all the doctors and lawyers of Nashville will be there, etc. Then the lady starts to recount the story of one of the previous fund raisers. A story about a guy who bought a $1200 bottle of wine and tried to pour it for his friends at the table. Steve said he was there and that the guy missed most of the glasses, pouring some of it on the tablecloth. They were both laughing about it as they surely played back the memory in their heads. It occured to me, I wonder if the irony is lost on them? Drunk rich people sitting around spilling expensive wine on a table? All under the guise of helping prostate cancer research? The irony being, wouldn't that $1200 surely help the cause better than pouring it out on the table and helping a handful of people create toxins and stupor for their bodies? I don't think it occured to them at all really. |

Today is the 37th anniversary of the Israeli attack on the American ship, the USS Liberty. Was it really an accident? The debate rages on. * * * "We had been surveilled all morning and part of the afternoon by Israeli forces. They knew who we were. We heard them reporting over radio who we were and how we were sailing and where we were sailing. They saw the flag and everything else. We were in international waters." 1. Adlai Stevenson supported USS Liberty 2. USS LIBERTY in Ha'aretz 3. USS Liberty Israeli denial; Israeli Pilot Speaks Up (1) Adlai Stevenson supported USS Liberty From: RePorterNoteBook@aol.com Date: Fri, 11 Jul 2003 http://ussliberty.org/ Adlai Stevenson supported USS Liberty Senator Adlai Stevenson III in 1980, his last year as a United States Senator from Illinois, invited Jim Ennes to his Senate office for a private, two hour meeting to discuss the USS Liberty attack and coverup. Following the private meeting, Ennes was invited back the next day to discuss the attack with members of Stevenson's staff, along with members of the staff of Senator Barry Goldwater and members of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence. In that meeting, staff members told Ennes that they found his story convincing, but that they would recommend to both senators that they not pursue an investigation because an investigation would only antagonize Israeli interests while "nothing good could come of it." Goldwater accepted that staff recommendation. Stevenson did not. Instead, Stevenson called a news conference in which he announced that he was convinced that the attack was deliberate and that the survivors deserved an investigation. He would, he said, spend the remaining few weeks of his Senate term attempting to arrange for an inquiry. Almost immediately, the government of Israel contacted the White House and offered to settle the outstanding $40million damage claims for $6million an amount equal to one dollar for each Jewish victim of the Holocaust. Vice President Walter Mondale quickly agreed to that offer just before Christmas while Congress and President Carter were on vacation. The Department of State followed immediately with a press release, reported on the front page of the New York Times, which announced, "The book is now closed on the USS Liberty." Indeed, from that point on, it was impossible to generate any congressional interest in the Liberty at all. Senator Stevenson's staff told me later that they felt the settlement was directly related to Senator Stevenson's announced plan to hold an inquiry, and was engineered to block forever any inquiry plans. Israel did subsequently pay $6million in three annual installments of $2million each. Secretary of State Dean Rusk said later that he considered the payments meaningless, as Congress merely increased the annual Israeli allotment by that amount. Adlai Stevenson later ran for Governor of Illinois. He was strongly op... [ Read More (3.8k in body) ] |

Let me just say from the outset that the Federal Reserve has confirmed our Stock Market Crash forecast by raising the Money Supply (M-3) by crisis proportions, up another 46.8 billion this past week. What awful calamity do they see? Something is up. This is unprecedented, unheard-of pre-catastrophe M-3 expansion. M-3 is up an amount that we've never seen before without a crisis - $155 billion over the past 4 weeks, a $2.0 trillion annualized pace, a 22.2 percent annualized rate of growth!!! There must be a crisis of historic proportions coming, and the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States is making sure that there is enough liquidity in place to protect our nation's fragile financial system. The amazing thing is, the Fed's actions mean they know what is about to happen. They are aware of a terrible, horrific imminent event. What could it be? ... I picked this story up off one of the conspiracy sites I frequent. I don't really know enough about Federal Reserve monetary policy to know if this is as big a deal as they make it out to be. Maybe some more financial minded folks can throw the proverbial grain of salt in the circle. Safe Haven Financial Markets Forecast and Analysis |
