Friends, Buzz & Click 3PO is here! - Nashville Events Anyone who doesn't have plans for this Saturday needs to come out and experience the joy and wonder that is Nashville's only annual electronic music showcase! We've given administrative duties to Buzz and Click over to Nashville's best radio station (91.1WRVU) and they've honored us with another great year of music running the gamut from melodic electronica to experimental noise and everything in between! There's a great lineup this year, including appearances from at least 2/3 of Venus Hum, Let's Say Baltimore, and Jensen Sportag. Huh? Oh, yeah - Logickal is definitely blowing it up as well. It's all happening Saturday - Guy Fawkes Day (November 5th in case ya didn't know) and it all starts at 8pm. It can all be had for a measly $5 (for 10 acts!) that goes to benefit WRVU (That means that you might also want to think about buying CDs from the artists...). You can follow the link below to read what the Scene had to say about it, and take a gander at the full lineup. Hope to see a bunch of ya there! -EDIT- I should add for the record that it's happening at The 5 Spot. FBI to get veto power over PC software? |

The Federal Communications Commission thinks you have the right to use software on your computer only if the FBI approves. No, really. In an obscure "policy" document released around 9 p.m. ET last Friday, the FCC announced this remarkable decision. According to the three-page document, to preserve the openness that characterizes today's Internet, "consumers are entitled to run applications and use services of their choice, subject to the needs of law enforcement." Many of the 140 passengers watched live coverage of their plight on television monitors embedded in the backs of seats.
I watched this live on CNN this afternoon (while working out at the Gym at Google, no less).
Wow. Bet that was a mindjob, watching your potential demise from a third person perspective while it unfolded. I say give that pilot a medal. That was a great landing. RE: Plane Lands Safely in Los Angeles After Landing Gear Becomes Stuck |

The Houston Police Department just formed a task force to investigate the abuse of the cards, which were distributed to thousands of Katrina hurricane victims to provide for necessities, such as food, clothing and toiletries. On the first day, the police found the cards being used to buy beer while ogling exotic dancers.
I just can't get enough about these cards getting abused.
Yeah, I cringed when I heard we were just going to GIVE people money to spend any way they want. For those not keeping score on the FEMA cards, that means YOUR tax money was used to subsidize this. RE: WorldNetDaily: Storm-relief money spent at strip clubs |

Davidson County tax hike fails by 2-to-1 margin |

A proposed half-cent sales tax increase for schools failed at the polls today in Nashville by a 2-to-1 margin. With 100% of all precincts reporting, there were 15,389 votes in favor of the increase, or about 30% of the votes tallied, and 36,090 against it, which is roughly 70% of the balloting, election officials said around 9:15 p.m. today. That total included early and paper ballots and all of Davidson County’s 172 precincts. The question was whether to raise the local sales tax, which if approved would have brought the combined Metro and state rates to 9.75 cents on the dollar. Voter turnout was light today, officials said. ... You don't say? Hard to think that out of 300,000 + registered voters here, only 50,000 bothered to show up to the polls for this. I'm satisfied that this was soundly defeated. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't we just have property tax increases? Davidson County tax hike fails by 2-to-1 margin |

Director Wong Kar-Wai's style reaches its fullest expression in his stunning film 2046. Picture period sets and intricate costuming, finely wrought atmospheres, languid shots, glamorous cigarette smoke, lamplight and allusions to film noir. 2046 is a meditation on memory, eroticism, love, loss, and longing which surpasses the director's beautiful, widely acclaimed IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE (2000) in terms of formal ambition and visual sumptuousness. With its intriguing, layered structure, the film follows the adventures of Chow Wo Man (Tony Leung), a womanizer who is writing a science fiction novel about a future year in which all memories are suspended. The film shuttles between the BLADE RUNNER-like world of Chow's futuristic novel (complete with androids and other metaphors of emotional disconnection) and late-'60s Hong Kong--where Chow writes from a hotel room, and engages in relationships with a series of beautiful, complex women. The film also journeys to Singapore and through the increasingly mysterious corridors of the protagonist's memory. ... I really enjoyed this movie. 2046 |

ReBirth RB-338 is the revolutionary computer software simulation of classic Roland devices - the TB-303 Bass Line Synthesizer and the TR-808 and TR-909 Rhythm Composers. The lasting influence of these electronic instruments encompasses genres of music ranging from contemporary Pop to Hip-hop, R&B, and electronic music. In 1997, over a decade after production had ceased on the original devices, the introduction of ReBirth launched a new generation of music software. Backed by critical acclaim and a dedicated fan following, this innovation set an important precedent for the music software industry. On September 1, 2005, Propellerhead Software announced that the era of ReBirth had come to an end and created the ReBirth Museum to commemorate its history. Visitors are welcome to tour the website, learn about its developers and community, and take home a special memento: ReBirth RB-338 itself! ... Nice. Before Reason, there was ReBirth. Pretty cool gesture, releasing the software after it was EOL'ed. There are torrents available for both Mac and PC. ReBirth wasted many hours of my time when it came out. I used it (illegally) for many months before more powerful software became available in the late 90's. It's still a fun piece of software to learn how the Roland x0x's were physically programmed. I'm seeding this one for a while to let some of the "Warez Karma" dissipate. Check it out, it's fun stuff. The Rebirth RB-338 Museum |

"There are physical threats to safety from roving bands of armed individuals with weapons who are threatening the safety of the hospital," said spokesman Steven Campanini. He estimated there were 350 employees in the hospital and between 125 to 150 patients. Tempers flared elsewhere across the devastated region. Police said a man in Hattiesburg, Miss., fatally shot his sister in the head over a bag of ice. Dozens of carjackings were reported, including a nursing home bus. One officer was shot in the head and a looter was wounded in a shootout. Both were expected to survive.
We've reached postapocalyptic.
One of the police chiefs said there are rapes happening inside the Superdome. There are reports of gangs of armed men walking the streets raping women. People shooting at helicopters. This thing you just reported. This disaster has been a wake-up call to me. Your best bet in a disaster for your survival is guns and ammo. The government is not going to protect you. I've also read where National Guard troops threatened to kill a group of people who broke into a kitchen looking for food. If you're starving in that cess-pool, what would you do? I'd do the same thing. People looting for TV's, fine, shoot to kill. Looting for food? It's going to go bad anyway. Might as well let it nourish someone.
