A vast hunk of floating ice has broken away from the Antarctic peninsula, threatening the collapse of a much larger ice shelf behind it, in a development that has shocked climate scientists. ... "I didn't expect to see things happen this quickly. We predicted it would happen, but it's happened twice as fast as we predicted."

Cars newer than that were banned from imports as unwelcome competition for Mexican car dealers, and anything more than 15 years old was seen as a potential environmental and safety hazard. But now, under pressure from Mexico's new car dealers who say "vehiculos chatarra," or jalopies, undercut their sales, the Mexican government is allowing only 10-year-old used cars to be legally imported into Mexico. All of a sudden, 1998 Luminas, Astro vans and Ranger pickups are sought-after trophies.

It’s not often that I find myself recommending a French state-owned industry as the answer to major U.S. problems, but I guess there’s an exception to every rule. In this case the exception is the French nuclear energy company Areva, which provides about 80 percent of the country’s electricity from 58 nuclear power plants, is building a new generation of reactor that will come on line at Flamanville in 2012, and is exporting its expertise to countries from China to the United Arab Emirates.

Tough-guy actor and martial arts expert Chuck Norris sued publisher Penguin on Friday over a book he claims unfairly exploits his famous name, based on a satirical Internet list of "mythical facts" about him. Penguin published "The Truth About Chuck Norris: 400 facts about the World's Greatest Human" in November. Author Ian Spector and two Web sites he runs to promote the book, including www.truthaboutchuck.com, are also named in the suit.
"Some of the 'facts' in the book are racist, lewd or portray Mr. Norris as engaged in illegal activities," the lawsuit alleges.
"Defendants have misappropriated and exploited Mr. Norris's name and likeness without authorization for their own commercial profit," said the lawsuit.

Most likely you have sen a headline like this somewhere, but if not ... the #2 independent (as in isn't an ISP or Cable provider) VoIP provider up and disappeared with 200,000 customers left wondering while having no official notification. The website works, my phone still works, but voice mail doesn't and no one answers customer service. Don't forget, the #1 provider, Vonage, with 2 million customers is still in court proceedings with Verizon. Poor cheap ass VoIP. I wonder who my VoIP account is going to get sold to. Hostrocket.com?
