So I says to Mable, I says...

Semen acts as an anti-depressant
Topic: Science 11:23 am EST, Mar  1, 2004

] Semen makes you happy. That's the remarkable conclusion
] of a study comparing women whose partners wear condoms
] with those whose partners don't.
]
] The study, which is bound to provoke controversy, showed
] that the women who were directly exposed to semen were
] less depressed. The researchers think this is because
] mood-altering hormones in semen are absorbed through the
] vagina. They say they have ruled out other explanations.
]
] "I want to make it clear that we are not advocating that
] people abstain from using condoms," says Gordon Gallup,
] the psychologist at the State University of New York who
] led the team. "Clearly an unwanted pregnancy or a
] sexually transmitted disease would more than offset any
] advantageous psychological effects of semen."

This could explain a lot.

Woman Says 'I Don't!!!' At NBA Game
Topic: Miscellaneous 2:07 pm EST, Feb 24, 2004

] At this weekend's Indiana Pacers-Washington Wizards game,
] a woman's reaction to a man's marriage proposal stuns an
] expectant crowd.
]
] The apparent proposal came at the end of a halftime
] contest on the Wizards home court Saturday night.
]
] The woman was blindfolded, sent out on the court, and
] told if she could find a local bank's mascot, she would
] win free Wizards tickets.
]
] As the crowd yelled "hot" and "cold," the woman roamed
] the court for about 10 seconds.
]
] Then, as she found and touched the bank mascot, she was
] told she won the contest.
]
] However, the public address announcer said there was a
] surprise.
]
] The man appeared from the bank mascot's costume, grabbed
] a microphone and then got down on one knee.
]
] As he began to speak to the woman, she paused, grabbed
] her face in shock, and ran.

This would be my luck (make sure you watch the video)

The Perils and Promise of Online Schmoozing
Topic: Business 12:18 pm EST, Feb 23, 2004

] They say everyone is connected to everyone else in the
] world by no more than six degrees of separation. Now a
] new set of dot-coms such as Friendster, Ryze, and
] Tribe.net are putting that notion to the test, allowing
] individuals to create an electronic Web of friends,
] families, and business contacts, who in turn, are
] connected to their other friends, families, and business
] contacts.

blah blah blah. Yeah, there used to be a site called sixdegrees.com... of course it blew up just like a bunch of other 'good' ideas. I blog'd this more as a data point of the hullabaloo in the space versus any useful info gleened from it.

It's been a year since the Station fire already???
Topic: Local Information 12:27 pm EST, Feb 22, 2004

] West Warwick, R.I. -- Not a cemetery, and not exactly a
] memorial, The Station nightclub site has become a mecca
] since 100 concertgoers died there a year ago today,
] trapped inside by a quick-moving fire that injured some
] 200 others. A circle of eclectic crosses loosely marks
] the footprint of the now infamous club, which burned to
] the ground when pyrotechnics set off by the band Great
] White ignited soundproofing foam on the ceiling.

Seriously. Clean up the site already.

Hamtramck stores rise to the occasion when Paczki Day rolls around
Topic: Recreation 10:39 am EST, Feb 19, 2004

] For more than 100 years, the little family-owned bakeries
] in Hamtramck have been cranking out paczki (POONCH-key)
] and other traditional Polish treats. Most of the bakeries
] start their paczki production about 48 hours before the
] big kick-off Tuesday morning. Oaza alone will produce
] between 7,000-8,000-dozen paczki before all is said and
] done.

Must. Get. Some.

State of the U.S. Arcade Industry 2004
Topic: Games 11:24 am EST, Feb 18, 2004

] There was a time when an arcade operator in America could
] buy a Ms. Pac-Man machine for less than $1,000, let it
] sit in an arcade, bar or storefront, and see that game
] make back over 30 times the initial investment. In 2004,
] that kind of profit margin is little more than a pipe
] dream.
]
] Since 2001, Midway completely shut down its arcade
] division, Konami closed its U.S. arcade operations, and
] Capcom did not even support its most recent title, Capcom
] vs, SNK 2, in the U.S., instead handing the game over to
] Sega for sales and marketing purposes.
