This week's Onion must-read. Rumsfeld then declared the tournament open by symbolically shattering a block of obsidian with his prosthetic dragon's claw—the powerful weapon grafted onto his right wrist after 2003 champion Li severed his hand with manji butterfly swords. .. "Man, they ain't seen unorthodox-but-effective until they seen me," said the languid Jack "Chocolate Lightning" Garrison, the two-time East Coast Freestyle Kung-Fu champion once described by SuckaPunch magazine as "six feet of stone-cold brotha and 10 inches of afro barely contained in a fly lemon-yellow jumpsuit." "Florida now has 'the very best' technology available," Florida's secretary of state declared on CNN. Hours later, results in Bay County showed that with more than 60 percent of precincts reporting, Richard Gephardt, who long before had pulled out of the presidential race, was beating John Kerry by two to one. There were, no doubt, other mishaps that did not come to light because of the stunning lack of transparency around voting in the state. When a Times editorial writer dropped in on one Palm Beach precinct where there were reports of malfunctioning machines, county officials called the police to remove him. ] For the record, this isn't the first time Bertuzzi has ] showed poor judgment with his use of aggression. He broke ] the nose of defenseman Karlis Skrastins, a non-fighter ] who's yet to crack 50 minutes in penalties in a single ] season, last year. He's been suspended for hitting an ] official, who was breaking up a fight Bertuzzi wouldn't ] back down from. He left the bench to participate in an an ] altercation four games into the 2001-02 season and was ] suspended 10 games, a penalty that arguably cost him the ] scoring title. I don't like what Kelly is trying to get the reader to conclude. Fighting and other roughing has a place in hockey. If the instigator rule was not present, you would not see cheap shots and hits from behind, because the players would police it better. The argument has always been that removing the instigator rule will just escalate confrontation, but it's done the exact opposite. With no penalty for cheap shots, they have just escalated into cowardly actions like Bertuzzi's. No player should ever have to engage another from behind. Period. But that doesn't mean that fighting needs to be removed. Blame Canada |

] "We will ultimately be judged on our response and ] the message that it sends." EXACTLY! Which is why anything less than a full 1 year suspension is the WRONG MESSAGE! ... ] It would be one thing if ] Bertuzzi had a history of violence. He doesn't. This is the most untrue thing I've heard in a long time. This type of behavior IS his game. NHL levies a just penalty against Bertuzzi for mugging |
