] hicago's two-fisted street cops have a new kind of ] backup: a point-and-click surveillance network tied to a ] citywide crime-fighting database. (Smile for the camera.) Relevant to Decius' postings on increased cameras in Nashville and the national ID plan. It's the same argument that is being used to bolster intelligence for the War on Terror(tm). Peace and security is worth paying for and bending your civil rights to accomodate. An argument that's hard to counter. Spycam Force |

] I'm worried about my country. I love America. I think ] it's the best country in the world. But I also think ] we're not tending to our sauce. I believe that we are in ] what Shirley Ann Jackson [president of Rensselaer ] Polytechnic Institute] calls a "quiet crisis." If we ] don't change course now and buckle down in a flat world, ] the kind of competition our kids will face will be ] intense and the social implications of not repairing ] things will be enormous. This is almost a verbatim quote I've said many times and it's true. Education. Health care. Training and support. These are all critical foundation systems that have eroded beyond repair in the US and are now threatening to undermine our entire presence globally. There's nothing worse than being a lazy top dog with a bunch of under dogs vieing for your spot. Why the World Is Flat |

] FOCUS Enhancements expects to sample UWB chip-sets in the ] third quarter of 2005 and modules containing UWB ] chip-sets later in the year. Performance expectations are ] anticipated to range from 880 Megabits per second (Mbps) ] at 8 meters to 37 Mbps at around 40-plus meters. This could get interesting. I'm stuck on whether I should just use Cat5 to bridge all my audio/video/data/IR traffic in my house, or start up a company that builds a wireless alternative. I don't think WiFi has the bandwidth and QoS to drive anything other than highly compressed VoIP and/or SD video, but it's EVERYWHERE and the chipsets are dirt cheap. However, UWB looks to be the winner, but has a loooong way to go for must haves like encryption and QoS. a dilemma.
