Palestinians Run Out of Rocks
Topic: Miscellaneous 10:55 pm EST, Feb 12, 2003

] Palestinian stone throwers disclosed for the first time
] Friday, that due to a gross miscalculation of their
] arsenal, they had finally run out of rocks and would be
] forced to come up with more inventive ways of continuing
] their Intifada on the Jewish state of Israel.
]
] I reached down to grab a rock this morning and all
] I got was a handful of sand, said one Palestinian
] militant who asked to remain anonymous. I tried
] throwing it but it just blew back in my face. Man, It
] really stung my eyes!

VC Funding Slows to a Trickle
Topic: Business 2:14 am EST, Feb 12, 2003

Still hurting from the dot-com bust, shellshocked venture capitalists in 2002 curtailed their fund raising for future investments to a 21-year low, according to a report.

No time to be an entrepreneur I guess.

When the videotape in the VCR is replaced by a hard drive so that the copy made is as good as the original and can be shared over the Internet with a multitude of people, the right to record looks more--at least in the view of several media companies--like a license to steal.

Oh for CRYING OUT LOUD! Get out of the way and let it happen already. We've only been waiting 10+ years for this to happen. It's finally all here, and you idiots are still trying to stop it. You'd think after 10 years, you'd have figured out how to make the transition by now.

Ian Clarke is stepping back into the limelight. The 26-year-old creator of P2P client FreeNet has released a preview of his latest file-sharing project, Locutus.

Locutus differs from most other P2P networks on several levels, most prominently its focus on security. Ask any InfoSec professional and they will tell you about the risks of file sharing, especially in a corporate environment.

Investors Want Growth
Topic: Business 5:47 pm EST, Feb 10, 2003

Are we so afraid of repeating the dot-com and telecom bubbles that we've written off entrepreneurs for a generation? That would be a tragedy. It's terribly tragic that the President's plan may institutionalize this bias.

A great nugget in the middle of this article talks presciently about Bush's suggestion that a tax cut on dividends will help America's economic woes.
