] When I mentioned in last week's column that I would this ] week be writing about a legal way to do a successful ] music downloading business -- a business that would ] threaten the Recording Industry Association of America ] and its hegemony -- dozens of readers wrote to me trying ] to predict what I would write. Some readers came at the ] problem from a purely technical perspective, ignoring the ] fact that the real issues here aren't technical but ] legal. Some readers took a legal approach, but they ] tended to ignore the business model. Some were looking ] solely for the business model. Interestingly, nobody ] even came close to my idea, which makes me either a total ] loon or a diabolical genius. Truth be told, I'm probably ] more of a diabolical loon. ] ] ] The reason I am even writing this column is two-fold. ] The biggest reason is simply because I would like people ] to consider lateral solutions to problems. I am pushing ] the concept of problem solving in a new way. There is no ] particular methodology here, just the underlying concept ] that if things aren't working the way you like, think of ] something different. Too often, people restrict their ] thinking or they somehow expect the world to change just ] for them, which it won't. But taking a lateral approach ] often yields interesting results. And once you've found ] an approach, maybe it can be applied to a different ] problem. What I am abo Cringely is a genius |

] The Tomahawk is likely to see the light of day, according ] to #2 exec Wolfgang Bernhard, who said we'd know by ] summer 2003. It's a Viper V-10 based motorcycle, a 500 ] horsepower engine sitting out in the elements with some ] wheels beneath it. The price would be at least $250,000, ] and there would be only a few hundred made. Frankly, we ] suspect the Tomahawk will be built, due to a huge amount ] of public interest. ] ] The Dodge Tomahawk can reach 60 miles an hour in about ] 2.5 seconds, and has a theoretical top speed of nearly ] 400 mph. Each pair of wheels is separated by a few inches ] and each wheel has an independent suspension. Bernhard ] said four wheels were necessary to handle the power from ] the engine. ] ] The Tomahawk remains on display at auto shows - though ] well out of reach of the general public, elevated on a ] special display. 2003 Dodge Tomahawk motorcycle concept |

] Steve Carlson is probably the most famous hockey player ] to ever come out of Nashville. ] ] Never heard of him? Maybe the name Steve Hanson rings a ] bell. That was the name of the character he portrayed in ] the 1977 film Slap Shot, a movie many hockey fans ] consider cinematic genius, their Citizen Kane. ] ] Carlson played in the minors for the Nashville South ] Stars of the old Central Hockey League during the 1981-82 ] season, notching 23 goals and 39 assists. But he gained ] much more notoriety as one of the rowdy, long-haired, ] goofy glasses-wearing Hanson Brothers who played for the ] fictitious Charlestown Chiefs in Slap Shot.
