] Los Angeles, CA - The RIAA announced that they would
] begin a strategy of profits by lawsuit, which should keep
] them a viable business indefinitely.

] "It's really a bold new idea that really gets back to the
] roots of the RIAA," said new RIAA Chairman and CEO Mitch
] Bainwol. "We'll no longer be worried about distributing
] music. The file sharers will do that for us, but now
] we'll just make our money from suing them and that's
] really what we're all about."

] According to a report by The Inquirer it will take the
] RIAA over 2,000 years to sue every file sharer, which

] New York, NY - NBC announced it will be expanding its
] successful Law and Order franchise with a fifth series
] called Law and Order: RIAA which focuses on an elite
] division of New York police who are teamed with RIAA
] lawyers.

] Lars Ulrich will star as a gritty New York detective and
] John Amos will play the chief RIAA lawyer. "Since most
] file sharing cases are civil and only consist of serving
] subpoenas, we had to take some liberties much like the
] RIAA," said creator Dick Wolf.

] "Not only will each episode feature a tense tracking and
] capture of a copyright violator, but also a performance

Yesterday, I read how it was going to take up to $90 billion to rebuild Iraq. Bremer was shooting out numbers about how much it was going to cost to replace buildings and bridges and electricity, etc. Listen to this little anecdote. One of my cousins works in a prominent engineering company in Baghdad- well call the company H. This company is well-known for designing and building bridges all over Iraq. My cousin, a structural engineer, is a bridge freak. He spends hours talking about pillars and trusses and steel structures to anyone wholl listen. As May was drawing to a close, his manager told him that someone from the CPA wanted the company to estimate the building costs of replacing the New Diyala Bridge on the South East end of Baghdad. He got his team together, they went out and assessed the damage, decided it wasnt too extensive, but it would be costly. They did the necessary tests and analyses (mumblings about soil composition and water depth, expansion joints and girders) and came up with a number they tentatively put forward- $300,000. This included new plans and designs, raw materials (quite cheap in Iraq), labor, contractors, travel expenses, etc. Lets pretend my cousin is a dolt. Lets pretend he hasnt been working with bridges for over 17 years. Lets pretend he didnt work on replacing at least 20 of the 133 bridges damaged during the first Gulf War. Lets pretend hes wrong and the cost of rebuilding this bridge is four times the number they estimated- lets pretend it will actually cost $1,200,000. Lets just use our imagination. A week later, the New Diyala Bridge contract was given to an American company. This particular company estimated the cost of rebuilding the bridge would be around- brace yourselves- $50,000,000 !! ... Blogger from Iraq. The Promise and the Threat |

From Wired News: Raymond Dublin took his foot fetish a step too far when the two-time convicted sex offender allegedly snuck up behind a woman at a Massachusetts Save-A-Lot supermarket and licked her feet and toes. Apparently, this was the third such encounter between Dublin and the woman, whom the prosecutor described as "extremely annoyed." Dublin, 36, was sentenced to 18 months in prison. He had recently completed a one-year sentence on a similar foot-licking charge at a Rhode Island supermarket. When his attorney requested counseling in lieu of jail time, the judge replied, "I don't know what type of counseling someone could undergo for this kind of behavior." While I don't have a foot fetish, I can certainly understand Dublin's predicament. |
