Oak Island: the Woods Hole Institute Report |

This is an alleged summary of a report by the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute on Oak Island, the "Money Pit" that's on my "Famous Unsolved Codes" page. The language of the report seems to be fairly professional, but without more verification, I can't give it a whole lot more weight than any of the other legends about the island. Still, it's interesting reading . . . Oak Island: the Woods Hole Institute Report |

] the president's press secretary, Scott McClellan, told ] reporters, "The president directed his administration to ] do a comprehensive review of our space policy, including ] our priorities and the future of the program, and the ] president will have more to say on it next week." Hmmm. So is this a test balloon to see how much public support there is for such a venture, considering the current wave of space enthusiasm? Is it a straight election-year ploy? A hint at what's coming up in the State of the Union speech in a couple weeks? A combination of all? My own opinion is, "Sounds great! But Show Me the Money." If there's a budget for it, it may happen. Otherwise it's just hot air. Stay tuned . . . Bush to Announce Ventures to Mars and the Moon, Officials Say |

Series of drawings under the effect of LSD |

These 9 drawings were done by an artist under the influence of LSD -- part of a test conducted by the US government during it's dalliance with psychotomimetic drugs in the late 1950's. The artist was given a dose of LSD 25 and free access to an activity box full of crayons and pencils. His subject is the medico that jabbed him. First drawing is done 20 minutes after the first dose (50ug) An attending doctor observes - Patient chooses to start drawing with charcoal. The subject of the experiment reports - 'Condition normal... no effect from the drug yet'. I would have liked the page to include more information about the circumstances of the test, to prove that it's real and not some urban legend. Other than that though, it's very interesting. ] Spirit and Opportunity also were designed to carry all ] the communications and camera equipment that was split ] between Sojourner and its Pathfinder mothership. ] ] "We have effectively merged the capability of the ] Pathfinder lander and the Sojourner rover into one larger ] rover," said Mishkin, who heads the team that develops ] the instructions that will be sent to the two robots each ] day. I grew up in Los Angeles, and have known Andy Mishkin for years. We went to elementary school together, and were usually in the same "gifted students" math classes through Junior High and High School. I am sooooooooooo proud of him. After our high school reunion, he also gave me a tour of JPL, so I got to see firsthand the equipment they use for sending signals to the robots, and the practice courses that they've used for teaching the Rovers how to navigate. Go Andy! :) Andy Mishkin - Team Leader for Driving the Mars Rovers |
