] As with all good ideas, this one began in the pub. The
] idea was simple: I would leave a message in a Dead Letter
] Box, somewhere in London, and then provide clues to the
] other two until they found it. The turn would then move
] on. All very simple and innocent and more or less
] straight out of the Usbourne Spy's Guidebook. The only
] thing I had to do was to find a suitable Dead Letter Box,
] and compose the message to be hidden. Easy Peasy, lemon
] squeezy.

Fun story.

] Meanwhile, Yahoo holds the 502 spot, just shy of the 500,
] with enough growth to make the list as well next time

Read/Write Web: RSS and The Big 3
Topic: Miscellaneous 2:30 pm EDT, Apr 18, 2005

I have become an RSS junkie. The potential is there. What are we seeing from the big guys?

] I've been following what the 3 big Internet companies
] have been doing with RSS and I largely agree with Dave
] Winer's recent assessment:
]
]] "Yahoo is dashing in front, with Microsoft close behind.
]] Why isn't Google in the race?"
]
] Yahoo has been by far the most proactive company of the 3
] this year. Microsoft has shown glimpses of what they're
] plotting
]
] But Google hasn't done anything with their Blogger unit
] and they seem reluctant to add RSS functionality to their
] product line
...
] This is another hint that Microsoft will build in RSS
] functionality as part of the plumbing for their next OS
] (Longhorn). It was clear from the start.com prototypes
] too that Microsoft's strategy with RSS is to integrate
] integrate integrate. They want RSS to be baked into their
] products and particularly their OS, so you don't need to
] download web apps or subscribe to web services like
] Bloglines.
...
] Yahoo on the other hand is more about utilizing RSS as a
] media and content enabler
...
] So what's Google up to with RSS?...
] Most of their huge take of advertising revenue comes to
] them via webpages - their own pages, plus external
] webpages that use Google Adsense. So Google wants to
] ensure that revenue doesn't get siphoned off if they make
] content available via RSS.
]
] It's interesting that the Gmail 'Web Clips' feature
] currently has adverts alternating with the content.
] So Google is actively experimenting with ways to monetize RSS.
]
] Once Google has gotten a handle on the revenue-generation
] options, then they'll commit to RSS and roll it out to
] the users.

Interesting if true, because this represents both a dramatic departure from some of their existing beta strategies (Maps.Google and Google News) as well as some of the first evidence of them ignoring a shiny techno toy in favor of a business model. Not necessarily that this is a real departure from how they operate internally, but rather from the public personality they try to convey. Except the silence is par for the course.

Less Competition for the Game [Fool.com: Motley Fool Take] April 18, 2005
Topic: Miscellaneous 1:49 pm EDT, Apr 18, 2005

GameStop buys Electronics Boutique.

] In retrospect, we all should have seen this coming. I
] mean, given this year's rash of mergers and buyouts, how
] long would it take for someone to try and snap up
] fast-growing, profitable game retailer Electronics
] Boutique (Nasdaq: ELBO)?
]
] Although the merger makes all kinds of sense if the
] promised synergies work out, it's also an example of one
] of those little Wall Street ironies, where a fish
] dislocates its jaw to swallow an even bigger fish:
] Electronics Boutique has more stores, higher sales, and
] an established international presence, and it's been
] expanding the top line more quickly over the past months
] to boot.

And so for the day we have Adobe buying Macromedia and GameStop buying EB. What other obvious arts and entertainment technology companies are on the near horizon? Nintendo and someone?

The American's guide to kiwis
Topic: Miscellaneous 12:58 pm EDT, Apr 18, 2005

] A Kiwi is not a fruit.
]
] That would be a kiwiFRUIT.
]
] To confuse the two is to betray a lack of awareness that
] seems to predominantly afflict Americans - and to offend
] an entire nation into the bargain.
]
] Bad for business.

] 2. I enjoy kiwifruit, but it sure is a pain to get past
] that fuzzy skin to enjoy the fruit inside.

]
] Slooping a kiwi is simple and quick, and can be done
] almost anywhere. Once you start Slooping you%u2019ll

] Another group of phytochemicals, the phenolic compounds,
] are found primarily in the skin of kiwifruit. These
] compounds, such as flavonoids, have received much
