In a bluntly worded editorial with the articles, Dr. Steven Schrader, a reproductive health expert who studies cycling at the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, said he believed that it was no longer a question of "whether or not bicycle riding on a saddle causes erectile dysfunction." Instead, he said in an interview, "The question is, What are we going to do about it?"

MIAMI - Alligators have clashed with nonnative pythons before in Everglades National Park. But when a 6-foot gator tangled with a 13-foot python recently, the result wasn't pretty. The snake apparently tried to swallow the gator whole — and then exploded. Scientists stumbled upon the gory remains last week.

In an exclusive interview with Tom's Hardware Guide, one of Microsoft's lead representatives on the DVD Forum Steering Committee said that decisions regarding whether his company and Intel would back and promote HD DVD as a high-definition video disc standard, were determined only within the last few days. Prior to some critical recent developments and announcements, both companies - which had proclaimed neutrality - may have been ready to back Blu-ray.

Everything you thought you knew about Fiona Apple's long-awaited, soon-to-be-released Extraordinary Machine is wrong. Contrary to rumor, the label did not shelve the album out of fears that it wasn't commercial enough; neither Apple nor Epic had a falling out with her longtime producer, Jon Brion; neither Apple nor anyone else in her camp leaked the Brion sessions to the Internet last spring; and the version of Machine coming to stores on Oct. 4, as re-recorded under new producer Mike Elizondo, is really the version Apple approved.
The Brion version is excellent, but a bit over-produced-intensive. I will be interested to hear the revision. Certainly Apple's performance at the MTV Hurricane Relief concert suggested a much more minimal approach to the material. You know those people skipping TV ads? Well, they're also more likely to be frequenting Internet forums to create and respond to consumer-generated media (CGM). That's the finding from a new Intelliseek study on CGM and engagement released this week. The study found that "active ad skippers" -- people who, with or without DVRs (define), reported deliberately skipping over ads on TV -- were 25 percent more likely to participate in Internet message boards, forums and blogs. Intelliseek came to its conclusions after an August survey of 660 online consumers. Additionally, the researchers found that consumers are approximately 16 percent more likely to be influenced by Internet word-of-mouth recommendations than by radio or TV ads. Ads in newspapers or magazines were even less influential, the study found.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Mazda Motor Corp. said Monday it had halted the sale and production of the 2006 Mazda5 crossover because a potential heat buildup in the exhaust system could lead to a fire. The government, meanwhile, said it was investigating reports that the large sun roof on the Cadillac SRX has shattered while driving at highway speeds, showering passengers with glass.
