"Do you want an original and dynamic logo, designed at a reasonable price? "

I want to plug these folks too. They cleaned up the MemeFactory image used in the cafe press store (which will be open soon...). Whats more, they did it on a Saturday with no notice at a very good price. This is definately a good place to turn for your business graphics needs.

Nashville Area Colocation and Rackspace
Topic: Miscellaneous 10:22 pm EDT, Aug 31, 2002

"ICG Link, Inc. provides colocation and rackspace for Nashville area clients in our cabinets at the Nashville Inflow data center where you will appreciate the highest security and most reliable network connectivity available."

I'm getting my colocation from these folks. Figured I'd give them a plug. They are reselling inflow in a form thats attractive to sites like mine that don't require half a rack. I think you'll notice that the speed of the site is greatly improved despite the fact that its on a computer which is about half as powerful as the one it was previously hosted on. The reason? Time Warner Telecom's backbone is over-subscribed.

Bush to Call for Fed NOC
Topic: Technology 2:13 pm EDT, Aug 31, 2002

The Bush administration has plans to create a centralized facility for collecting and examining security-related e-mail and data traffic and will push private network operators to expand their data-gathering initiatives, according to an unreleased draft of the plan.

...

Howard Schmidt, vice chairman of the CIPB, said the center would consolidate threat data from the country's collection end points, such as the FBI's National Infrastructure Protection Center, the Critical Infrastructure Assurance Office, the Department of Energy and commercial networks.

Private companies would also be encouraged to increase the amount of data collected and share it with the government. "Major companies generally report this information internally," Schmidt told eWeek. "We're looking for that to come back to a central location."

Secrets and Lies - Seventy-five little reasons to be terrified of the FISA court. By Dahlia Lithwick
Topic: United States 12:59 am EDT, Aug 30, 2002

This week, a federal court of appeals declared that "democracies die behind closed doors" and demanded that Attorney General John Ashcroft open up the immigration hearings for suspects connected to Sept. 11 roundups. But wherever the courts open one door, Ashcroft and the Bush administration manage to close another. And so we find ourselves in peril of losing the right to search warrants granted by real judges in real courts, as the attorney general again attempts to drag the Constitution into dark caverns and windowless towers.

This is a good article on its own merit but I want to raise a tangental issue. Slate uses the word "bitch" in this article. Slate. These are the guys who showed up deriding all the pundits like Brock Meeks who claimed that the Internet wanted opinionated journalism in common language rather than the traditional media fare of high brow faux objectivity. Slate obviously gave up on that. At least the net pundits were right about something. :)
