[IP] Buffett on dividend taxes

] And our receptionist? She'd still be paying about 30
] percent, which means she would be contributing about 10
] times the proportion of her income that I would to such
] government pursuits as fighting terrorism, waging wars
] and supporting the elderly. Let me repeat the point: Her
] overall federal tax rate would be 10 times what my rate
] would be.

Does the Public Really Believe? (washingtonpost.com)
Topic: Current Events 10:06 am EDT, May 26, 2003

] Both the war and the tax cuts began as policy decisions.
] The justifications for the policies were developed -- and
] changed as often as necessary -- to accommodate the
] policies.
]
] And a lot of people have gone blithely along.
]
] I wonder if they go along out of belief, out of deference
] to their leaders or out of partisan loyalty.

This is a well written question. Nice and open so that you can insert the theory of your preference. I want to add that just because they are obviously lying doesn't mean your conspiracy theories are correct.

] companies against some of their customers won't come up
] for a vote in the General Assembly this year, its
] sponsors said yesterday.

I wish to express sincere thanks to the tndigitalfreedom folks for fighting, and winning, this battle.

] the top, only to start again at the bottom of the next
] ramp.
]
] It is a sight which defies logic, and has become probably
] the most memorable image of this year's show.
]
] Mr Dyson says his inspiration was a drawing by the Dutch
] artist MC Escher (he of Gothic palaces where soldiers are
] eternally walking upstairs, and of patterns where birds

Analysis of RIAA revenue figures versus overall economy
Topic: Intellectual Property 4:30 pm EDT, May 20, 2003

] This model predicted the CD sales of RIAA members to
] within thirty million dollars (less than one-quarter of
] one percent) given the performance of the economy in
] 2002, as a function of nineteen other similarly-sized
] corporate sales, and the performance of the RIAA three
] previous years.

In other words, piracy is not impacting sales. (Note: This is extremely unlikely to be a conspiracy theory. The people that run these companies do NOT get this.)

Hrm, they have since released information that provides reasonable doubt that he might have been travelling to Afghanistan to join Al'Q. Its plausable enough to warrant detaining him and trying him.

Having said that, it is critical that these things be done out in the open. The public pressure on this is the reason they had to go public. Hopefully this will serve as a lesson in the future to those whose family members may be detained without reason. The Internet is your friend. Get as many eyes on the situation as possible. You now have the power to do that.

] interactive and democratic.

[IP] Understanding the Accelerating Rate of Change
Topic: Miscellaneous 6:37 pm EDT, May 18, 2003

] You no longer expect your grandchildren to live the same
] lives that you did, and your lives are very different
] from your parents lives. Today theres an axiom that the
] only constant is change. But what people dont recognize
] is that the world itself has changed because the greater
] change is accelerating. So our whole concept of what it
] means to be human is going to be changing, and it is
] going to be merging with our technology.

In these slow times a reminder of the sort of thinking that drove the technology community 10 years ago is work having. This is a sort interview with Ray Kurzweil.
