"I don't think the report is true, but these crises work for those who want to make fights between people." Kulam Dastagir, 28, a bird seller in Afghanistan

One of the problem with MemeStreams is that its really good for medium sized memes, but it breaks down when confronted with really big memes because they come from so many directions at once. Lots of people memed this story, but no one memed the same source. I've considered playing with baysian filtering technology to sort articles that come for different sources but seem to cover the same topic, but there are so many simple problems to solve with the site.

In any event, I'm rememing Hijexx's version. I think he has got it right. I don't think Bush mis-spoke. I think this is exactly what he meant. Would you prefer that he said "They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and we never stop thinking about new ways to harm them?" Thats not a very defense oriented or peaceful perspective. How else would you define "what bush meant." He meant that we are thinking of all of these things too. We're red teaming. We're prepared.

Vanity License Plate Brings Tickets
Topic: Humor 12:51 am EDT, Aug  5, 2004

WILMINGTON, Del. - A vanity license tag chosen as a gag has left its owner holding the bag. Jim Cara thought the "NOTAG" plate he got for his Suzuki motorcycle would give people a laugh.

Instead, he found that the laugh — along with more than 200 parking violations — was on him.

The new tag arrived in the mail Saturday, along with an avalanche of Wilmington parking violations.

"All the traffic tickets say, 'Notice of violation. License number: no tag,'" Cara explained.

Officials said city computers linked to state Division of Motor Vehicles computers finally found an address for ticketed vehicles that lacked license tags: Cara's home in Elsmere.

"I messed up the system so bad," Cara said. "I wonder if they can put me in jail or something?"

Cara, 43, who works for the American Motorcycle Association, said he's been a lifelong prankster. This time, though, "the cleanup is going to be worse than the joke," he said.

OOPS!

] the test-run data he said, "Oh my God. They might have a

]

The wifi shootout concept is kind of silly. The guy who can buy the best antenna wins, and you've got a bunch of people running around with antennas that they constructed without reading anything about antennas. It ought to be obvious that parabolic dishes are the right answer.

However, the fact that these teenagers managed to get an unamplified consumer wireless card communicating across 55 miles of desert with old C-band dishes is cool in a DIY kind of way. It means that anyone with line of sight can build a long distance wireless backbone, and cheap.

...locks you in deeper. Want to buy a different portable music player next time you buy one? I hope you don't mind throwing away 5 years of songs you bought on iTunes, because they aren't going to work with anything else.
