] No matter how you look at it, AFP will lose this battle. ] It is inherently just an attempt to extort money out of ] Google. What AFP does not realize is how badly they have ] damaged their clients. Political Gateway is one of their ] clients and we have been devastated. ] ] Google decided to respond to the extortion and stupidity ] of the lawsuit by actually winning the battle. ] Google's response? They stopped syndicating the news ] from sites using AFP of which this site is one. Not only ] is our AFP news not syndicated, but our editorials and ] independent news feeds are also blacklisted. Some of you probably missed nano's meme here. This is the most substantive scientific data I've seen about this case. Cat scan pictures are fairly telling. As for the ins and outs, I don't know them all. Politically this case is not particularly compelling, mostly because of this data. But the religious people want to believe that a miracle can happen here and they are fighting for it. I could save 10 lives a year with the money spent keeping this woman alive, but its too easy. There is no divinity in addressing the problems men can solve. To pick your fights is to accept that the omnipotent is limited. What is the point of saving people if there is no God to reward you for it? Schiavo case |

] There has been a rule on the books since 1952 requiring ] foreign journalists to obtain special "I visas," but ] foreign journalists say it was invariably ignored by ] Immigration and Naturalization Service officials who ] required only that citizens of friendly countries apply ] for a visa waiver, an exemption allowing most residents ] of 27 enumerated countries to visit the United States for ] business or pleasure for up to 90 days without jumping ] through any INS hoops. ] ] No more. When the INS was folded into the Department of ] Homeland Security in March 2003, the I-visa rule began to ] be enforced in earnest, sometimes, resulting in at least ] 15 journalists from friendly countries being forcibly ] detained, interrogated, fingerprinted, and held in cells ] overnight with most denied access to phones, pens, ] lawyers, or their consular officials. So, the context here is that if Bloggers are Journalists then Everyone is a Journalist and so everyone must have these visas. I think its troubling that this rule exists at all. Why do we require journalists to have special visas? Click through to the Slate article for an interesting rant about INS. Bloggers are Journalists: The Down Side: Corante |

] Aside from users of naked DSL services, an FCC decision ] would also affect "cord-cutters," a group of about 20 ] million U.S. residents who don't have local phone lines ] and go solo instead with their cell phones. As a result ] of the possible FCC ruling, cord-cutters would have to ] buy a local phone line in order to get DSL. When I moved to Georgia I was informed that I had to have a pots line to get DSL.
