He went to sleep in the early morning, woke up sometime after noon and immediately took a dose of Purple Haze acid. Ellis would frequently drop acid on off days and weekends; he had a room in his basement christened "The Dungeon," in which he'd lock himself and listen to Jimi Hendrix or Iron Butterfly "for days." A bit later, how long exactly he can't recall, he came across Mitzi flipping through a newspaper. She scanned for a moment, then noticed something. "Dock," she said. "You're supposed to pitch today." Ellis focused his mind. No. Friday. He wasn't pitching until Friday. He was sure. "Baby," she replied. "It is Friday. You slept through Thursday."

Pop-ups are better. Sometimes I want to cut and paste between the article and the box and a second window makes that easier.
OK, in the editor window there is now a (PopUp) link next to the URL. If you want to pop up a new window with the url in the url edit box, clicking that button will do it. If you are using IE and you have the new IE bookmarklet, as this popup will be coming from memestreams.net you'll only need to allow pop ups from us in order for this to work. I also fixed some CSS issues in Firefox. Another IE Update |

Do you think the Recommend and Discuss Bookmarklets should pop up a new window? IE's pop up blocker can't tell the difference between a pop up ad and a bookmarklet, so I've had to make new bookmarklets for IE that don't pop up a new window. In truth, the IE bookmarklets work in Firefox, and the Firefox bookmarklets work in IE (assuming you disable pop up blocking) so its possible for users of each browser to use the kind of bookmarklets they prefer. I prefer to have a new window pop up because I like to refer to the original article while I'm editing. However, I'm wondering what the rest of the site thinks. One might reasonably ask why I don't just let users choose which bookmarklets they want to install. The reason is that MemeStreams is intimidating enough to new users without having to ask them to make a decision about that when first joining the site. So what are your thoughts? Pop ups good or bad? |

I've updated the bookmarklets for Internet Explorer. The new IE bookmarklets do not pop up a window, thereby avoiding the annoying problem with IE's pop up blocker. As always, let me know if you have any trouble. |

House Passes Constitutional Amendment to Ban Flag Burning |

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) said in a statement that she would "support federal legislation that would outlaw flag desecration, much like laws that currently prohibit the burning of crosses, but I don't believe a constitutional amendment is the answer."
I have a rant about this matter that I will deliver if this effort is successful. For the time being I'm holding my touge because I think this is a bunch of political grandstanding and this won't actually come to pass. My cynical perspective on Clinton's comment above is that she is opposed to the amendment, but she doesn't have the guts to come out and clearly explain why. Cross burning is not prohibited by law, nor can it be. Intimidation is prohibited by law. Burning a cross in order to intimidate people is illegal in several states and those laws have been upheld when carefully applied. Is Hillary asking for a ban on flag burning in the context where it is used to intimidate? One could certainly imagine such a context, were a violent islamist group to burn a flag while chanting "death to the infidels." However, this isn't really what this is about. In fact, almost no one burns flags in the U.S. When it happens it is usually an expression of frustration with the system rather then a threat of violence against the people. Is American Recordings attempting to intimidate you? Was Johnny Cash anti-american? Intimidation isn't really what this is about, and Hillary knows that. Thats is why I see this comment as an attempt to avoid discussing a matter which I feel is vital to our identity as a nation. This is a grave decision we face. Choose wisely.
