Dubbed Creative Commons, this system is some sort of secondary copyright license that, as far as I can tell, does absolutely nothing but threaten the already tenuous "fair use" provisos of existing copyright law. This is one of the dumbest initiatives ever put forth by the tech community. I mean seriously dumb.

Dvorak rails on Creative Commons. I think he is intentionally pretending to be more confused about it then he really is, because he wants to make a point. People are unbeleivably dumb when it comes to licenses. I recall dealing with a guy once who had published a software library that said both public domain and all rights reserved on it. His responses to my queries about this were nonsentical.

CC is being promoted as "hip," particularly by BoingBoing and related community. People who would otherwise put their stuff in the public domain are putting CC no commercial use licences on them instead. There is a risk that this will remove more content from the public domain then it will add. Furthermore, you are now starting to see people release source code that is "Creative Commons licensed." Creative Commons doesn't have a license for source code.

Why doesn't Creative Commons has a small commerical use license that lets the work be used commercially as long as the revenue generated by the context of the use is under a certain amount ($50,000)?

China dumps dollar in favor of basket of currencies
Topic: Business 11:03 am EDT, Jul 21, 2005

BEIJING (AP) -- China dropped its politically volatile policy of linking its currency to the U.S. dollar but retained controls on its exchange rate, switching the link to a basket of foreign currencies in a move that could push up the price of Chinese exports to the United States and Europe.

Bush responds by nominating a candidate who will allow Democrats to avoid fighting on their weakest ground – substance. He has given us a Supreme Court nomination that will placate no liberals and should please no conservatives.

I've been thinking the radical right was a little too happy about Roberts. Thats no good. If the radicals are happy the moderates will be worried. If the moderates are worried the man won't be approved. 24 hours in the wake of the nomination there was this terrible vacuum of radical conservative opposition. So Coulter is deployed on cue. She should generate enough noise to make the appearance of balance in the process. She also gets to benefit from the I told you so later on when Roberts inevitably diverges from hardline thinking. Good work if you can get it.

TP: Bubble Fusion takes next hurdle

In addition, he questions the independence of the researchers.

Taleyarkhan teaches physics at Purdue University, and Xu and Butt work in his laboratory. The two acknowledge that Taleyarkhan helped them designing and setting up the acoustic test cell. As Purdue communicated, the experiments had begun when Taleyarkhan was still employed at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, and had been finished before Xu and Butt joined his lab. "We did our experiment and data analysis independently", says Xu.

Another article on the bubble fusion result, peppered with interesting links. We should soon know if this can be reproduced.
