Spy Agencies Say Iraq War Worsens Terror Threat - New York Times
Topic: War on Terrorism 10:27 am EDT, Sep 24, 2006

A stark assessment of terrorism trends by American intelligence agencies has found that the American invasion and occupation of Iraq has helped spawn a new generation of Islamic radicalism and that the overall terrorist threat has grown since the Sept. 11 attacks.

CNN.com - Rumors swirl over bin Laden's fate - Sep 23, 2006
Topic: War on Terrorism 12:52 pm EDT, Sep 23, 2006

The article cited a confidential French foreign intelligence document dated September 21 in which a source said the Saudis had received confirmation that bin Laden died of typhoid in Pakistan on August 23.

There seems to have been what I've called an air pressure change in the past month. If this was true, it would explain it.

An astronaut from the space shuttle Atlantis collapsed twice Friday during a welcome home ceremony, a wobbly return that officials attributed to the adjustment from 12 days at zero gravity.

Space hurts. A presentation on space medicine at this years DragonCon totally destroyed every romantic idea I ever had about zero gravity space travel. We're not adapted for that environment. We'll need to bring a lot of gear with us, some of which we haven't made yet.

Zeroday Emergency Response Team
Topic: Computer Security 11:02 am EDT, Sep 22, 2006

ZERT members work together as a team to release a non-vendor patch when a so-called "0day" (zero-day) exploit appears in the open which poses a serious risk to the public, to the infrastructure of the Internet or both.

(BTW, you can just unregister the vulnerable DLL for this latest bug. You don't need a patch.)

Someone really did put my pictures in bus shelters around San Francisco. Holy holy holy shit.

I like this because its quintessential San Francisco. Its billboard manipulation, and its geek slang, and it has to do with sex. If they had somehow worked in a turntable it would be perfect.

Hezbollah guerrillas were able to hack into Israeli radio communications during last month's battles in south Lebanon, an intelligence breakthrough that helped them thwart Israeli tank assaults, according to Hezbollah and Lebanese officials.

Wow! Key management problem?

Details about reecent ATM scams...
Topic: Computer Security 10:54 am EDT, Sep 21, 2006

I ran to the Shell Food Mart across the street from Wired News HQ, and found a Tranax Mini -Bank 1500 sitting oblivious next to the potato chips. I did not try the default password. But, I have to wonder, how many vulnerable ATM machines are out there?

For those that haven't dug into this, it sounds like the sort of password an idiot would have on his luggage.
