If the Bush administration's preparations for war with Saddam Hussein were proceeding appropriately, the president would probably be curling up right now with something called a National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) for Iraq. But ... there is no NIE for Iraq and there probably won't be one anytime soon. Everything is worse then you thought. TNR Online | Intelligence Test (print) |

Osama bin Laden targeted the heads of the Defense Department, State Department, CIA and FBI, and offered a $9 million bounty for the assassination of four top intelligence officers, a congressional investigator said on Wednesday. In August 1999, U.S. intelligence agencies obtained information that bin Laden's organization had decided to target the top officials at the State and Defense departments and the CIA, said Eleanor Hill, staff director of the joint 9/11 inquiry of the House and Senate intelligence committees. "Iraq's letter to the United Nations offering to allow the inspectors to return without conditions was met by skepticism from U.S. officials. " Hrm. I couldn't get a "clean" quote from this article. Iraq has agreed to allow weapons inspectors. Western Hawks claim this is a stalling tactic. If it is, it will work... CNN.com - Inspectors ready to go back to Iraq - September 17, 2002 |

"Integration means adopting Western secular values in lieu of Islamic values - values which are from a foreign and different ideology to Islam." Islamic conference in London argues (amoung other things) that it is not possible for Muslims to live in peace with western people because Islam does not beleive in the separation of church and state. CNN showed posters at the conference which read "WE WILL DOMINATE THE WORLD." This group is viewed as LESS radical then Al Qaeda because they do not openly praise 911 terrorists nor are they claiming the moral right to kill 4 million people. However, Al Qaeda seems more open to dialoge then these people, at least in terms of the content of their rhetoric. CNN also showed footage of speakers at this conference who offer the common deceit that Islamic government is better then other sorts of government because government designed by god is obviously better then government designed by people. "Powell, who favors international coalition-building and multilateral action, has made new allies for America. He has been the principal voice in this administration arguing against the long-term efficacy of military solutions either to the Palestinian-Israeli crisis or to our own ''war on terrorism.'' Neither Rumsfeld nor Cheney possesses Powell's diplomatic skills or the larger worldview required to win friends among nations whose populations look different and think differently than they do." I don't agree with the author's oped about Powell's future. Removing the elder perspective from the White House will leave the idealism of the boomers unchecked, and will needlessly accelerate the descent into chaos. The chaos is inevitable, but it must be put off at this point. The country is not ready. Yahoo! News - Public responsible for foreign policy |

"Federal sources involved in the investigation said they believe the three men - all U.S. citizens - were playing a stupid joke on another restaurant patron who gave them a suspicious look." You're sitting in a restaurant with your buddies on a road trip. Some idiot redneck walks in and starts looking at you like you must be a terrorist. You make fun of her. She calls the cops. 12 hours later you're being held in a van southern Florida while the FBI pulls your car apart with a robot. The worst part of this is that the stupidity hasn't stopped yet. They are still holding them. They are looking to charge them. They still have the road closed. Gotta blame someone for our stupidity. God this is ridiculous... " A 20-mile stretch of "Alligator Alley," south Florida's primary cross-state connector, has been closed Friday while bomb squad investigators search two cars and authorities detain three suspects who authorities believe may have been plotting a terror attack in Miami. Florida law enforcement authorities issued an alert Thursday night after receiving a report that a woman in a Calhoun, Georgia, restaurant overheard three men discussing explosives and saying that Americans would "cry on 9/13," a law enforcement official told CNN. The men left the restaurant in two vehicles and headed south on I-75. " CNN.com - Terror alert issued on Florida highway - September 13, 2002 |
