RE: Kissinger Returning to Political Stage With 9/11 Post
Topic: War on Terrorism 1:27 pm EST, Dec  2, 2002

] In response to the editorial concerns about his independence,
] Mr. Kissinger said, "I think The New York Times will
] apologize for this editorial
when our report is submitted."
]
] He promised that the report would be "nonpartisan, thorough
] and something that will permit the American people, when
] it is finished, to say that a full accounting has been given
] of the facts and circumstances that led to this tragedy."

Kissigner is upset with NYT over their editorial. It takes some guts to directly address such criticism. Most of these sort of people simply ignore it.

Virginians soon will be able to sport vehicle license plates bearing the words "Fight Terrorism" emblazoned in red letters ...

Virginians [can] obtain the new plates as a way to show solidarity ... and to demonstrate "a national effort to resist this type of thing from ever happening again."

The license plates can be ordered at www.dmvnow.com ...

Don't forget, the more people buy these license plates, the less likely it will be that terrorism will occur.

NPR : Terrorism Intelligence Timeline

NPR's Mike Shuster reports on Morning Edition that government agencies had several clues that might have triggered alarms in the months before Sept. 11. But no one put them together.

Senior government officials were frantic about threats from al Qaeda, going all the way back to June 2001. There were daily meetings in the White House, and alerts issued from the FBI, the State Department and the Federal Aviation Administration.

"The warnings were serious, the information specific and some of it had to do with the use of airplanes to kill the president and foreign leaders."

Be sure to follow the "Listen to Mike Shuster's report" link to hear the audio track for this story. It's the best study I've seen thus far into how close we actually came to having specific advance knowledge of September 11.

Fact-Finding and Its Limits
Topic: War on Terrorism 5:39 pm EDT, May 26, 2002

It's not surprising that many officials in Washington are talking about convening an independent panel to investigate the federal government's actions before the Sept. 11 attacks. ... Congressional investigations can calm public anxiety, push reforms upon government agencies and in some cases force out ineffective officials. What they are unlikely to do is give us the kind of understanding that normally comes only decades later from history, when we will have full access to information and the distance to judge it properly.

Presidential historian Michael Beschloss explains it all.
