"Across London, these posters can be seen telling us all that we are 'Secure beneath The Watchful Eyes' of the Metropolitan Police." English tube posters promote police surveillance. This is hillarious. I really want one of these posters. They are likely real, but no one seems sure that they are official. I imagine that it will be covered in the English press before too long. There is also a really good link here to one of those really poorly designed US military branch seals. This one has the illuminati pyramid looking down on the planet. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. Samizdata.net - Big Brother is watching: Not in 1984 but in 2002 |

Put this simple script in your .profile and it will remind you of the homeland security status every time you login to your machine. Not a good idea on computers that aren't always connected to the net. Homeland Security Advisor for UNIX |

"Sodium is really rather dangerous. If we had been anywhere within 15 feet of this explosion, it would have sprayed us with molten sodium and sodium hydroxide. Even a tiny amount in the eyes would have been a serious medical emergency." Weird Science: Dropping lots of sodium into a lake |

If you noticed a brief outage this afternoon, it is because I replaced my hardware. Because this system is smaller then my Sparc, my total operational costs remain the same month to month, but this system is a lot more powerful. Financing rules. 1gig p3 with 512M ram... I have a few design & service criticisms, but they are minor. Biggest problem: Fan is loud as hell. Only buy one if you plan to colocate it. Happiest about: They picked a bios that supports serial consoles. There are many penguin computing machines in my datacenter (inflow) so I've adorned this one with a Pumpkin sticker so I can find it later. They sent me a plush penguin. :) Its going right next to the plastic yellow blow-fish I'm getting from work. Penguin Computing - Relion 105 - Pentium III 1U Linux Server |

"Here's your chance to go back to 1999 and do it wrong, all over again.... BURN RATE is based on the experiences of many technologists during the recent rise and fall of the new economy. With a simple, fun, and uncannily realistic game system, you and your friends will struggle to keep a dot-com startup afloat as the bad business pours in and the money runs out. October 3, 2002What would Jesus do? We admit that this is a perfectly fine question. And so, to find answers, we decided to go to the source and last week read through the four Gospels. This is what we found. Q: Would Jesus launch a "pre-emptive" war? A: Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (Matt. 5:9) Q: Out "president" [That's "resident" Bush -- Ed.] appears to be prepared to "kick some Iraqi ass." What would Jesus do? A: Ye have heard that it hath been said, thou shalt love thy neighbor, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you and pray for them that despitefully use you and persecute you. (Matt. 5: 4344) Q: While the governor of Texas, George Bush signed 140 death warrants, and granted no pardons to condemned prisoners. What would Jesus do? A: Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy. (Matt. 5:7) The HTML on this page is baddly broken, but I enjoyed the content. What would Jesus do? |
