] In April, the legendary Pixies will reunite for the first ] time in over a decade. The notoriously quarrelsome ] quartet have buried the hatchet, clearing the way for all ] four original members to hop onstage together for a world ] tour, according to a spokesperson for the band. Part of me doesn't want to recommend this. 4ad is an RIAA label. We'll see, in April, if I really want to give these people money. I'm already having misgivings about having bought RadioHead tickets.... MTV.com - News -Legendary Pixies To Reunite For Tour, Album |

More recommendations from friends in Atlanta. The best explanation that I can offer for this is that its "light" industrial music, if you can imagine such a thing. Like Front 242, but more human. Two thumbs up. Fischerspooner |

SF Instrumental rock. On the east coast these guys open up for people. On the west coast people open up for them. I got the impression, seeing them play last night, that it didn't make sense that they went on stage first. From Monument To Masses. |

T-spigot now has CDs selling on Amazon. These are some friends of mine from the bay area. Frequently featured on somafm. The "Trip to Booker" track has samples Rattle gave them from a whacky indy film that our tivo grabbed one night. If you like the stuff on somafm, you should buy this CD. Why EMusic is better then the new Apple service (maybe) |

Hrm... I'm posting this because these were my thoughts upon hearing about the Apple service. 99 cents a song is still too much money for disposable, low quality MP3s. I'd rather pay a flat rate subscription. Unfortunately, it appears that this morning E-music released a new software revision that breaks all third party software that interoperates with it and forces end users to employ their download manager. This decision does not appear to be well thought out for a number of reasons. Personally its annoying because I've been making plans to write a client that allows MemeStreams and Emusic to interoperate so that you can have tracks picked by the reputation system, and as of today Emusic may have made that impossible. We'll see... Why EMusic is better then the new Apple service (maybe) |

Skykicking - Outkast - Bombs over Baghdad |

] "Bombs Over Baghdad" sounds even more like ] self-contained, self-conscious artillery. The title ] promises internationalist fervour, but in fact seems to ] be just a clever metaphor for the repetitive vagueness of ] other hip hop artists - "don't pull the thang out unless ] you plan to bang... don't even bang unless you plan to ] hit somethang" - which is ...ironic... under the ] circumstances. But Outkast impart their message better ] than Dead Prez did on "Hip Hop", and with more reason to ] feel confident; the music is utterly blinding. What ] Outkast, or perhaps producer Earthtone III, seem to have ] realised is that much of the truly scary, fervent ] sounding music made during the nineties (hardcore techno ] and jungle being the relevant examples here) has been ] made in digitalised circumstances, without conventional ] ideas of meaning and feeling propelling them. Or otherwise the song doesn't really mean anything... However, I really like it anyway. I think I might buy this CD... :) Skykicking - Outkast - Bombs over Baghdad |
