] Here are two new tracks from the forthcoming full length ] Negativland CD/book project, "NO BUSINESS." ] ] The "NO BUSINESS" project will come in a fancy shmancy ] die-cut sleeve package with a 14,000 word essay, a ] computer playable video, and 37 minutes of audio that are ] all about, and examples of, Negativland's current take on ] issues of file-sharing, downloading, appropriation, and ] the supposed collapse of the music business, circa 2004. Unfortunately these tracks seem to take heavily from the CD that came with "The Letter U and the Numeral 2." Now, I think thats their best CD, but I'd like to hear more new material. no business: Negativland |

] The Department of Homeland Security ordered a United ] Airlines jet flying from London to Washington rerouted to ] Bangor, Me., on Tuesday afternoon so it could intercept a ] passenger, Yusuf Islam, the musician formerly known as ] Cat Stevens, two government officials said. ] ] Mr. Islam was "denied entry into the United States," said ] an official, and was in the custody of Immigrations and ] Customs Enforcement. The plan on Tuesday evening was to ] deport Mr. Islam, who is a British subject, the officials ] said. The peace train Stevens was riding on was forced to land in Maine. Officials made a statement saying we should just remember there's a lot of bad and beware, beware, oh baby baby it's a wild world. Cat Stevens can no longer get by on just a smile, because he gave money to the wrong people. The New York Times | Cat Stevens, threat to national security |

A creepy custom music video. Radiohead does office space. The main page from this link features a series of disturbing office suicide cartoons. The Apple one is probably the best. If the appearance of dilbert cartoons on cubicles is the first sign that your company's culture is dead, the appearance of stills from this site ought to be the last sign before your company reaches cataclysm. Anyone heard this yet? Slabs of dub, slices of surrealism, and disembodied "found" voices make their appearance on the latest offering by ambient dub commandos The Orb. Bicycles & Tricycles returns to the original Orb concept which isn't about songs, but lysergic landscapes. Industrial grinds propel you through one moment, only to be untethered into infinite space the next, before being snagged into synchronicity by a dub groove. Bicycles and Tricycles | The Orb |

Moby and Public Enemy have teamed up for the single MKLVFKWR. The track was written specially for Unity, The Official Athens 2004 Olympic Games Album compilation. The music for MKLVFKWR was written by Moby while the lyrics were penned by Chuck D and Flavor Flav of Public Enemy. Chuck D: "Working with Moby on this theme and project again shows that music can be a universal language of peace. Knowing his great work and concerns of the planet made this project one of like mindedness and world spirit." Moby says of Public Enemy "I've always been a huge fan" and talking about the role of music and protest he states "we do still ostensibly live in a democracy, so my hope is that at some point the people will vocally rise up and let the current leaders know that they've had enough." Adds Chuck D: "The song is a request that being a citizen of the world should transcend nationality in the name of peace." MKLVFKWR |

Query: Good Rolling Stones, Paint it Black covers? |

Does anyone know of a good cover of Paint it Black by the Rolling Stones? This is a brilliant song, one of my all time favorites, but when I listen to it the 1960's instrument and production technology always bothers me. The frequency spectrum isn't fully utilized. A modern Industrial or Metal band could take this song and really fill up the sound-space with it. I wonder if anyone has? I did some digging on Google but I mostly came up with questionable references to songs that did not seem to be commercially available. Anyone know of anything? |

] Several ways, the first of which -- and I'm probably ] shooting myself in the foot by saying this publicly, but ] to heck with it, it's the truth -- the first of which is ] VH1 and MTV, who unwittingly and without any mal intent ] -- you know, they didn't mean to do anything bad -- have ] turned it from being a musical experience to being a ] theatrical experience. Again, what you look like, not ] what you can do. This is a great interview. MTV did for music what ABC did for the presidency. frontline: the way the music died: interviews: david crosby | PBS |
