LONDON, England -- An exhibition of dissected human corpses which caused a storm of protest has prompted a rush of "body donors" who want to be preserved and put on display for future generations. More than 20 people in Britain have agreed to donate their bodies to an institute run by German professor Gunther von Hagens, whose chosen preservation method is to skin the corpse, splay its insides and put it on display to the public. "The most certain thing about life is death," Juanita Carberry, 77, from Kenya, told reporters at the exhibition on Monday. "And I believe in recycling everything that is recyclable." "My body is a shell I live in. When I die I will have finished with it. If I can dispose of any part of my body for a useful purpose then that is great." A $143.1 million price tag has been set for conspiring to rip off CD buyers. And the world's five largest music companies and three largest music retailers have agreed to pay up. The music moguls have decided to settle a CD price-fixing lawsuit brought against them by 41 states and commonwealths. States' attorneys say the music companies and retailers conspired to inflate the cost of CDs from 1995 to 2000, thus violating both federal and state antitrust laws and bilking consumers out of millions of dollars. (And they wonder why fans resort to MP3-swapping? Yeesh.)

Tim Lawrence has found a drug that is far more effective at controlling the symptoms of his Parkinson's Disease than any prescribed by a doctor. The only problem is that it is Ecstasy, the illegal and dangerous stimulant much favoured by night-club ravers. His discovery could overturn 30 years of medical thought, and eventually lead to a new treatment for Parkinson's. BBC News | HEALTH | Ecstasy 'relieves Parkinson's Disease' |

Alexander Shulgin affiliated NPO which does interesting projects wrt free thought. The Center for Cognitive Liberty & Ethics is a nonprofit education, law, and policy center working in the public interest to foster freedom of thought. The CCLEs projects are critically important at a time when developments in pharmacology and other technologies hold both enormous promise and peril for cognitive liberty. The CCLE defines cognitive liberty as the right of each individual to think independently and autonomously, to use the full spectrum of his or her mind, and to engage in multiple modes of thought. Any law or cultural mandate that restricts the freedom of an individual to form his or her own world view, or which restricts his or her freedom to think, perceive, or understand the world, raises a cognitive liberty issue. Unmask is a python script that allows you to break the anonymity of e-mail or other text. It works by doing basic statistical matching against stored "signatures." It may require some tweaking to fit your particular use to it (un-anonymizing IRC chats, email, web pages on FreeNet, etc). Another fun parlor game use is using it to distinguish between two groups of any kind. Male/Female, Engineers/Computer Scientists, Scientists/Liberal Arts Majors, etc. If you improve it in some way, please send me (dave@immunitysec.com) a note. Unmask is released under the GNU GPL v2.0. Unmask |

NEW ORLEANS, La. (Reuters) - A day after completing the longest swim in history, Martin Strel says he needs a rest, a massage and a date. After 68 days of swimming 12 hours a day to travel the 2,400- mile length of the Mississippi River from its source in Lake Itasca, Minnesota, to where it empties out into Gulf of Mexico, Strel says he is a tired man . "I am more tired today than yesterday," the 47-year-old Slovenian said sluggishly. "I need a massage. I need a good woman. I didn't touch woman in three months. Not good for me," he told Reuters in a phone interview. Slovenian Needs Rest, Love After Swim |
