Who Armed Iraq? Charles R. Smith Monday, March 17, 2003 Myth vs. Fact Name one weapon in the Iraqi arsenal that was made in the United States. I have offered that challenge to dozens of so-called anti-war activists who claim that the U.S. armed Iraq. According to these protesters for "peace," George Bush Sr. and Ronald Reagan supplied Iraq with tons of weapons. None have been able to name the specific weapon missile, bomb, fighter, tank or shell that is U.S.-made or has U.S. equipment installed in it. None have been able to name any specific weapon system. ... Time to separate the myth from the reality. The propaganda spun by the far left is false. The facts show that Iraq is armed with a wide range of weapons none of which came from the U.S.
=== btw, particularly ironic is this : Since when is a truck a weapon? Are the Iraqis going to drive backwards, fuel tank first, into the U.S. Army?
Apparently the Iraqi irregulars have used a gasoline truck to blow up a US M1A1 tank.. =darwin Who Armed Iraq? |

quote from msnbc weblog central: "Ostensibly based in Baghdad, Where is Raed? is written by a person blogging under the pseudonym of Salam Pax, a tech-savvy Iraqi whose mastery of English provides for vivid descriptions, cutting wit, and thoughtful commentary. In the past there has been some discussion of the veracity of the writers claims, but those appear to have been resolved, with several bloggers offering testimony to Salams authenticity and frankly, the more you read, the less doubt there seems to be." The fact that this guy finds these numb-skulls "witty and erudite" shows just how bright you have to be to write for the San Francisco Bay Gaurdian. =darwin quoted: ===
Anarchy in the USA Black Bloc antiwar rioters speak out. By A.C. Thompson THE BLACK BLOC has few friends. Cops, obviously, loathe the sable-clad anarchist types who've stomped through downtown San Francisco three times in the past three months, skirmishing with cops, spray painting the San Francisco Chronicle building, shattering windows (Old Navy, Starbucks, and the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, among others) and causing at least $50,000 in property damage. Pacifists and less radical elements of the antiwar movement say the rioters are tarnishing the movement's image and scaring away would-be supporters (see "Resist!," page 22). Stephen Zunes, a left-leaning associate professor of political science at San Francisco State University, trashed the Black Blocers in the Chronicle last week, describing them as "nihilists" and "hoodlums" without a "political agenda." Zunes's comments are typical. Most people seem to think the Black Bloc rioters are a pack of mindless hooligans. But that analysis is only half correct. Hooligans? Definitely. Mindless? No way. The four young shit-disturbers three anarchists, one communist I met at an anonymous and presumably unbugged location March 15 were witty and erudite. And they definitely have a political goal. sfbg.com | Life During Wartime |

Three men have died trying to retrieve a mobile phone from a pit latrine in the Kenyan town of Mombasa. University student Dora Mwabela dropped the phone into the latrine while she was answering a call of nature, the Daily Nation newspaper reports. She offered a reward of 1,000 shillings ($13) for anyone who could recover the phone, worth 6,000 shillings. Most Kenyans survive on less than $1 a day. ... "The fumes inside must be extremely poisonous considering the short time it was taking to disable the retrievers," he said. The cell phone was not found.

McDonalds Launches McArabia Mohammed Alkhereiji, Arab News Staff JEDDAH, 5 March 2003 In a bid to salvage its business interest in the Middle East, McDonalds has introduced a new sandwich for the Arab consumer: McArabia. The new sandwich, which continues MacDonalds tradition of catering to local markets, is made of Arab bread, grilled chicken, lettuce, tomatoes and Arab sauce. In a year which, according to a McDonalds representative who spoke to Arab News, saw a sharp fall in the companys profits and the laying off of workers including many Saudis, the once undisputed fast food king is working hard on catering to a market that is looking for alternatives to US products in the current international political climate. In 2002, Al-Watan newspaper reported that the sale of US food and consumer products was down a staggering 25 percent. Ironically, the main ingredients that make up the new McArabia are of international origin. The Arab bread for the sandwich is imported from Britain. The chicken is currently being imported from Malaysia. ArabNews: McDonald%u2019s Launches McArabia |
