Ugh, the 80's - in my adolesence, my mom was a survivalistic thinker - we lived in hurricane alley anyway - so it was good policy to have rations and skills, but she really took this film to heart. I just remember that whole era of "The Russkies could take us out, we have to be ready..."

If I want to be kind to this movie, I can make it out to be a reversal of "Lord of the Flies" where the kids step up to the plate. but the analogy's not that good, so I won't. But I generally endorse movies where young people are shown as having some wits about them, and utilizing resources instead of exploiting them. Patrick Swayze notwithstanding.

Heh.
