This website has the AOL Customer Retention Manual posted in full as a 7MB PDF. I'm sure there are a lot of psychological tricks in the manual, but I'm waiting on my copy to download at the moment. Too bad this got leaked now that we are all out of the ISP games... AOL Customer Retention Manual Published |

The design of these solar collectors is not unlike the basic theory I exploited in the antenna I designed and built for the WiFi Shootout a few years back but never got to Las Vegas. Parabolics -- simple to implement and highly effective. Though this is more properly called a Cylindrical Reflector. Parabolic Solar Generators |

Take a kid's fishing rod, combine with juvenile arm prosthetic and viola! instant kid-fishing machine! Now I don't feel so sorry for those who have lost an appendage -- I'd hack something together so I could have a Wolverine-claw on one hand. =) Disabilities don't have to be; there's always a silver lining somewhere. From Slashdot: "An article from the National Association of Colleges and Employers contains yet another horror story about a prospective hire's Facebook being checked — with a different twist. The interviewee had enabled privacy on his profile, '[b]ut, during the interview, something he was not prepared for happened. The interviewer began asking specific questions about the content on his Facebook.com listing and the situation became very awkward and uncomfortable. The son had thought only those he allowed to access his profile would be able to do so. But, the interviewer explained that as a state agency, recruiters accessed his Facebook account under the auspices of the Patriot Act.' How can a 'state agency' use the Patriot Act to subpoena a Facebook profile?"
What he said... how? State Agency Uses Patriot Act to get Facebook info |

Largely unrelated to Britney, more like a bunch of science with some art around it. There is a story in there about Hedley Lamarr on the site that is rather illuminating as to some of her background and how she discovered the technique of frequency hopping, a cornerstone in military communications for years.
