From Slashdot: "An article from the National Association of Colleges and Employers contains yet another horror story about a prospective hire's Facebook being checked — with a different twist. The interviewee had enabled privacy on his profile, '[b]ut, during the interview, something he was not prepared for happened. The interviewer began asking specific questions about the content on his Facebook.com listing and the situation became very awkward and uncomfortable. The son had thought only those he allowed to access his profile would be able to do so. But, the interviewer explained that as a state agency, recruiters accessed his Facebook account under the auspices of the Patriot Act.' How can a 'state agency' use the Patriot Act to subpoena a Facebook profile?"

Largely unrelated to Britney, more like a bunch of science with some art around it. There is a story in there about Hedley Lamarr on the site that is rather illuminating as to some of her background and how she discovered the technique of frequency hopping, a cornerstone in military communications for years. This is an article, albiet rather short, about placing yellow chairs at or near places which have openly free wireless connectivity to encourage use of the facilities. The yellow chair concept is borne from the Yellow Bike project, where several cities have implemented free bicycles, painted yellow, which can be ridden from place to place without worry of rent, upkeep, etc. Yellow Chairs for Free WiFi |

Why the net _should_ be neutral |

If phone companies thought they could get away with it, you’d have this: “I’m sorry, all circuits to Domino’s Pizza are currently busy. Would you like to be connected to our preferred pizza provider instead?”
I think that states it pretty effectively. How much longer until AOL is redirecting sites to "preferred" providers? Why the net _should_ be neutral |
