] The Mountain View, Calif.-based company on Monday ] announced the S5000, which it says is the first processor ] that can add new instructions while operating. The chip ] combines an existing RISC (reduced instruction set ] computing) architecture with a large reconfigurable area ] of programmable logic called the Instruction Set ] Extension Fabric, ISEF. The company's own C/C compiler ] automatically spots areas in a program that require ] intensive computation and creates new instructions for ] the processor to handle those tasks. Beter/real transaction management. I guess many web-based workloads are almost all SELECT ... in which case MySQL wins since its optimized purely for that... ] Umem cards are battery-backed RAM cards that replace disk ] accesses with non-volatile memory accesses to improve ] response time and maintain reliability in server and ] storage appliances. This is the special sauce that makes the difference between a real raid controller and a Linux box. This device is supported under linux and shows up as a block device.
